Blair stole Thatcher's clothes and got new Labour elected three times in a row.
It's taken a deadly pandemic, but are the Tories going socialist in order to keep power?
Or is it actually possible that they believe the socialist policies they have been pursuing for over a year, are the right thing to do?
While Boris was isolating in March 2020, he contradicted Thatcher by saying “there really is such a thing as society”.
His Chancellor has borrowed and spent over £300 bn, in order to maintain the economy and save millions of people's livelihoods - under the threat of unemployment and homelessness.
Today, Boris has made a plea to tackle inequality - which is a tacit admission of something most of us already knew, during the austerity decade, after the financial crash; we were never "all in this together".
It is, indeed, remarkable, that he seems to be acknowledging that for the bullshit that it's always been, by saying it was
"vital that we don't repeat the mistakes of the last great crisis - the last great economic recession of 2008 - when the recovery was not uniform across all parts of society".
As you all know, I am no fan of him, nor his government - I wasn't before their incompetence caused over 100,000 deaths.
However, he's giving every appearance of understanding that ideological business as usual isn't going to be an option for the Tories, if they are to remain in power.
IF - and it's a BIG if - he's actually intent on making the Tory Party more left wing; that's a good thing. I guess we'll see.
Personally, I reckon the leopard will retain its spots; but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.

No the tories are not going socialist. However boris is quite happy to say absolutely anything to stay in power. He has no intention of delivering on any promises, as he knows full well that huge swathes of the population have zero care or memory further back than the latest lie. He has no concern about where the money might come from that he gives away, just as he has no concern for where the money will come from when his girlfriend (as was) literally wallpapers the living room with gold - paying for things is something that other people do. He is quite handy at funnelling all the money through his family and mates though, because it makes them all the more amenable to stump up next time that he needs the decorating or the furniture or the child care or even his takeaway dinners to be paid for.
When boris says it would be good to tackle inequality, I think it's safe to say that the only inequality on his mind is that it's a bit unfair of people to start asking him to pay his own bills. |

Surely any Politician that can and will change their mind is no bad thing?
If someone is prepared to change, opinion, belief and stance to retain their role is that so wrong?

They are certainly working hard to give the impression that they believe in some socialist thinking.
However, I would look carefully to where the money is being funnelled. It's not, on the whole, going to the top of the list in regard to need. But to the top of the list in regard to Tory constituencies in need.
It's a slightly abstracted bribe to vote Tory. Using our money. |
