Been reading that the NI increase is 1.25% percentage points.
Appently that there is a difference between percentages and percentage points?
It seems like the wording made it sound like that increase was negligible, but in fact it is far higher.
Interesting… |

12% to 13.25% is an increase of 10.4%…… hmmm best refer to it as being only 1.25% points - sounds so much better

Making it sound negligible is very much in the government's interest.
Most people pay NI at the rate of 12%, that rate is being increased by 1.25 percentage points to a rate of 13.75%. That's an increase of 10.4%.
For example: if you earn £20,000 p.a. you currently pay £1252 NI, after the rise you will pay £130 more. If the increase in the charge itself was 1.25%, that would only be an extra £15.65. |

Apologies - "13.75%" on line 3 should of course read 13.25%. |

I look at as in increase in the percentage you pay as its relevant. Otherwise if it started at 1% and increased to 2% that would be a 100% rise |
