that Chernobyl is an uninhabitable place, devoid of humans.

Today, I discovered that 210 people, yes, two hundred and ten people actually work there.

That is an awful lot of people who have been putting their lives on the line for many, many years.

Up until a few weeks ago you could have taken a guided tour

I think it's closed for a while now

I knew about the guided tours.

Bald n bankrupt and all that. Pripyat.

However, what I didn't know is that the "moth balled" "concrete clad" shell of the nuclear power station still actually has 210 employees working there.

Who employs them / pays their wages? Russia, Ukraine, some power company?

Caught this on DWs YouTube a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea where these guys are now.

The EU was paying wages and covering the cost of the sarcophagus.

Whether they still are, I don't know.
