Does it? What are the Mail going to do if Durham Police decide they were right first time? Start a campaign to have their Chief Constable sacked?

No need to read the mail as the BBC and sky are running the same story. I suspect there will be other media outlets with it too so plenty of choice.

At least the OP is open about it. Lots more read it, believe all the hateful shit they publish, then pretend they don't read it.

This seems like false equivalence to me.

Partygate events were multiple parties intended as parties.

BoJo set the rules and broke them either knowingly or through ignorance.

Beergate was a work event intended as a work event with food due to a very late finish.

The email indicates that being the plan. Not a "gotcha" at all.

I'm not sure how else to interpret this.

Regardless, the new Downing Street publicity machine has done what it needs to make Starmer being "just like" BoJo when that is far from the case.

That will continue to pull politics down as it normalises the politics of the worst.

Wasn't this a schedule of the days events which included time to have some food and a drink and not a leaked memo?

either way it cannot beat a invitation to a bring your own drinks party at no10, amongst many other parties which took place there.

The most incriminating bit is the visit ended at 10. While some may have carried on working (and is imagine SKS did) others probably didn't.

I wouldn't be surprised if there are a few fines, but SKS isn't one of them.

. At least he is now exposed as being a total hypocrite in addition to having no policies and the recent election results were not exactly a stunning success for him . It looks like he has nothing to offer anyone so maybe we should hope that he does not resign, in which case the electorate can just carry on ignoring him.

No one cares about who broke lock down rules as most people probably did at some time. Only Kier Starmer wants people to resign over it. Maybe he needs a dose of his own medicine .

We are lucky to have a newspaper as thorough as the Daily Mail in their investigation .

This story is all over the news but there is spin here. When Starmer wanted Boris sacked it was about justice. Now the boot is on the other hoof it's called a smear campaign. Look deeper people's.. Starmer is being betrayed by his own party.

They leaked the itinery and it was obviously a planned get together . What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander ..

The Labour leader campaigned for the crime tsar whose force is refusing to fine him over Beergate, it can be revealed today.

Keir Starmer recorded a video endorsing Labour's Joy Allen as she ran for election as Durham's police and crime commissioner.

Nadine Dorries, the Culture Secretary, demanded to know what conversations Mrs Allen had with officers who cleared him of breaking Covid lockdown rules.

But when Torys turn to friends its called sleaze.

What's it called when a Labour leader does it asking for a friend ??

Check the tories getting on their high horse!

Unfortunately, the so called horse is a donkey.

CCHQ must be getting super hard erections at the moment, possibly due to all the tractor porn they’ve been watching recently.

We will see what happens, at least we know if SKS gets fined he will do actually the right thing and leave.

Tories may see this situation backfire spectacularly in their grotty faces

Do any of those criticising Kier Starmer believe or have any information to suggest that this was not a specifically work event that was scheduled to run late and therefore require food?

It would be great if anybody responding would address the point directly rather than behaving like a politician

What do you call it when you make an accusation with innuendo but don't have the facts to hand?

Does the Police and Crime Commissioner have any part in the prosecution of any individual case?

What party did the Durham Police and Crime Commissioners come from when Dominic Cummings was not fined?

It says a lot indeed.

It is a memo that includes campaign visits and arrangements for food.

There is also a note in red that reminds everyone to wear masks and social distance at all times when indoors.

How can this even be considered evidence of anything other than a campaign agenda? What kind of party required face masks and social distancing lol.

It's not just about the Daily Mail. It is an attempt, likely to be successful, to taint Kier Starter as behaving in the same way as BoJo.

This his down to the new Downing Street press office.

Unfortunately this makes all politicians appear like BoJo which is terrible for society and democracy as this is not the case at all.

For sure. The Daily Mail is just the most obviously blatant example. Nearly all the press are on the same page. They're just more subtle about it.

Lol,

I don't need to. This non story will only have any meaning if Starmer is fined, and then doesn't resign.

In the meantime this is 100% just to distract Conservative voters from Boris Johnson being a lying sack of shit. And in fairness, it's working.

Actually it’s the best time to be leader, all things considered. Because his time is bringing back a revival, yes he may need to fall on his sword. But it would be epic to see the fleshlights on the opposition benches being shown up for corrupt peabrains they are.

Has he committed to resigning if fined? I don't think it will get that far but if it does, I do not recall hearing him say if fined he will resign. Usually when asked he just says he does not think he broke the rules. That's fair enough but does not answer the question. Just for the record I think Boris should have resigned

If he gets fined he only has (in my opinion) 2 options

Resign

Contest the fine and take it to court

Usually when asked he just says he does not think he broke the rules. That's fair enough but does not answer the question. Just for the record I think Boris should have resigned

If he gets fined he only has (in my opinion) 2 options

Resign

Contest the fine and take it to court

In the meantime there will be more fines for parties at number 10 and the Sue Gray report. This saga will just continue

Does any of this matter though?

In regards to the next GE? I doubt any of it will matter, Boris won’t be resigning no matter what happens, "

And we're stuck with more of the same shit. It's just all a big pantomime to keep them in power.

Well Diane Abbot is hinting that he should resign.. these Labour types are plotting and the jack boot loony left cannot wait to depose Stafmer and bring back a Corbyn type .. Not a good time to be the Labour leader ..

Yes, he should resign if he gets a fine, who are the ‘jackboot loony left’ "

The question is, was the "gathering" reasonably necessary for work purpose. That there was food there is academic.

Mary Foy is the MP for Durham right? So in a way SKS is her boss. So meeting her could be reasonably necessary especially given the elections.

There was limited time to do this. See the itinary.

As far as I can see, nothing in stage 2 restrictions stopped them from also eating at the same time.

Now the question could be asked how much work was done .... But that would be something Durham police have to show. That it was part of a work itenary shows more that it was "pre meditated" work.

That would be my angle to defend this.

And let's not forget, we were in stage 2. So saying that both Boris and SKS was preplanned isn't the equivalence people are aiming for.

ps not a lawyer !

You have to laugh that the Boris fanboys on here are spending so much time on this….

Back in the real world we have 10 per cent inflation forecast from the Bank of England, sterling has already dropped by 10 per cent since Boris got Brexit done, a united Ireland now looking a strong possibility and then there’s millions given to the Rwanda asylum scheme which may not even be legal let alone value for money and then of course there’s the arse-kicking in the local elections….

Beer and a curry seems like desperation if that’s all you’ve got….

Oh, and don’t forget there’s a war on

Lawyer on sky made interesting comments . The law allowed for meetings and food wasn’t relevant. Some of the Boris meetings which included food and drink were found to be work related and were therefore dismissed by the MET .

The difference he pointed out was some of Boris’ get togethers were blatantly social including specific invites explaining the events were to be social.

In his opinion from what he knows of the Starmer event it did not break the rules relevant at the time.

But what does he know he’s only a lawyer.. .

Has he committed to resigning if fined? I don't think it will get that far but if it does, I do not recall hearing him say if fined he will resign. Usually when asked he just says he does not think he broke the rules. That's fair enough but does not answer the question. Just for the record I think Boris should have resigned

He hasn’t yet, but considering the man’s moral fortitude, it is the most probable outcome. "

Most probable I would agree with though now seems it is not a commitment. I still don't think it will get to fines though. If he does get a fine then a possible route to stay would be to say, well Boris did not resign so why should he.

It may indeed not, but I could imagine the middle finger to the tories it would be if it did occur. He could say that about not resigning, extremely doubtful though it would fly in the face of the rehabilitation of the Labour Party.

He hasn’t yet, but considering the man’s moral fortitude, it is the most probable outcome.

Most probable I would agree with though now seems it is not a commitment. I still don't think it will get to fines though. If he does get a fine then a possible route to stay would be to say, well Boris did not resign so why should he.

One difference..

Keith starmer is a man of honour

I don't know if he is. But he has more honour than Boris.

You don't read the right press just the red tops

What is the "right" press?

What redtops aren't pro Tory?

Why ? boris obviously does not think its a resigning offence but SKS high moral stance means he obviously does.

Says it all really. Also says a lot about his supporters. A complete moral vacuum!

Every poll shows that the majority of the British public DO think Johnson should resign.

You are correct. The garden party was May 15 2020. Only two people could meet outdoors at 2m distance. The rule of 6 outdoors was in place at the time of the Hartlepool meeting.

If they actually broke the rules then fine them. Will be interesting how this turns out.

One thing that really surprised me with the rules and fines (for the plebs) was that it didn’t escalate for repeat offences (did it?)

Surely it should have been, you make a mistake once, get a warning, twice you get a smaller fine, three times a bigger fine etc.

Clearly if it had been approached that way Johnson and pals would have some seriously large fines to pay.

Now election purdah is over, I wonder when we get to see Sue Grey Report and when the Met will tell us about the rest of the fines?

Conservative voters do not give a shit what the Tories do or did. But that Starmer might get fined, is a big deal.

Boris and co could kick in these people's front door, smash up their gaff, take a shit on their kitchen floor and still count on their vote at the next GE.

You just cannot win with these daily fail muppets,

Beaker going meep, meep, meep, and fozzy going wakka, wakka, wakka.

SKS smacks them in the face with his integrity, because the daily failers like to transfer their own mindset on everyone else and are so dumbfounded when actual humans actually behave with decency.

They again will make excuses, trying to see some conspiracy. Thinking the Investigation is rigged, (these are the same guys who would believe the 2020 US elections were rigged).

For the entire week, they have bayed for the blood of Starmer and Raynor, screamed from the top of their peanut brained heads for Justice, they get it, then when SKS and AR say they will resign they squeak mentally like Sweep from the sooty show.

It proves one thing, they know that either way fine or no fine, SKS and AR have the stombonis to put the government to task, and if they get fined it puts the Labours case of improving politics for the better, rather than the corrupt tory offerings.

Boris Johnson has been issued with a fine, so I suppose he should be stripped of his far more significant position of Prime Minister.

What "legal bully boys"? Who are they? How are they bullying a Police force?

Should they have brought in an outside Police force to investigate Cummings? Should they bring in an outside Police force to investigate murders and burglaries too?

What a nonsense.

Another Constabulary is only brought in to investigate wrong doing in another force.

You have actually stated that regardless of any information available Starter is guilty and should resign and if he isn't found guilty then the Chief Constable (who will clearly not carry out the investigation herself) must resign because they must be "wrong" and therefore corrupt.

It's not possible that Starmer follows the rules and did nothing wrong regardless of any information to the contrary.

Thankfully, you are neither a policeman or a judge.

Boris Johnson was overheard screaming “F*ck!” after Keir Starmer told reporters he would step down as leader of the opposition if he is given a fixed penalty fine over lockdown breaches.

Just hours after Boris felt relief that the right-wing media attack-dogs had gone after Starmer over the beergate incident, the prime minister has once again been left looking like a hypocritical and immoral shyster to all casual observers.

“Yes, this isn’t great,” admitted one Downing Street source close to the prime minister.

“On the one hand, if he doesn’t get a fine then our attacks look entirely baseless and Starmer can once again safely adopt the more high ground over lockdown breaches.

“On the other hand, if he does get a fine, he resigns and makes Boris look like an irredeemable law-breaker, once again giving Labour the moral high-ground over lockdown breaches.

“Obviously Boris isn’t going to follow suit, no amoral egotists would. But he’s going to need something new to distract people.

“What we really need is a line of attack that works if Keir Starmer doesn’t get a fine. Something like, ‘Starmer knows the police from his days as the head of public prosecutions, so the investigation is a fix’ – which no sane person will believe, obviously, but will definitely be enough for our supporters and most right-wing commentators who are willing to contort themselves into ever more painful positions into order to support Boris.

“So yeah, it’s time to go full on conspiracy I think.”'

'Tearful Starmer confesses to second beer

9th May 2022

A CONTRITE, tearful Keir Starmer has confessed that his first Beergate beer tasted so good he opened a second without thought for the consequences.

The Labour leader, who is expected to resign after letting down his party, the country and his immediate family, admitted that he did not just stop after a single beer on April 30th last year.

He said: “I’d been working all day, though not as tirelessly as the Downing Street employees whose powerful need to relax broke a child’s swing, and felt I deserved a drink.

“After all beer does go so wonderfully with a curry, which is exactly the kind of out-of-touch Islington elitist dinner-and-booze combination that shows how distant from decent British people I am.

“But that beer – some of which I drank standing – slipped down so deliciously that I could not resist opening a second, in contravention of unwritten but clearly understood Covid regulations like ‘it’s not a party if the cake stays in the Tupperware’.

“As I guzzled it I knew I was betraying Britain and killing thousands. What can I say? The deaths of all those grandparents felt so good on my lips that I didn’t give a f**k.

“Then I returned to work, blind pissed on two drinks like a total lightweight, and that d*unkenness was directly responsible for our terrible showing at last week’s council elections where the Tories only lost a triumphant 400 seats.

“I’m so sorry. I’ve already resigned. Labour isn’t allowed a leader from now on.”'

"Starmer and Rayner have both said they will resign if fined

Yep. Integrity. Showing not all politicians are like Johnson. Everyone makes the odd mistake. It is how you own your mistake and what you do about it that matters. Will be interesting IF they get fined.

If course IF they do then Durham will need to also reopen the Cummings investigation too!I would have thought you would want to keep cummins on side after all he is the one who started it all in the first place and has played a blinder getting all the people who hated him to do his bidding. "

I am not on a “side”

For me this isn’t about red v blue, left v right, and tribalism. It is about the utter corruption in our current govt who happen to call themselves Conservatives (but are really more like proto-fascists who have infiltrated a previously centre right party).

Cummings undoubtedly broke several lockdown rules but Johnson got him off.

Why are you hoping he resigns? He hasn't done anything wrong.

The current Tory attack line in the Mail is now that Starmer is trying to pressure the police by vowing to quit if fined. (Looks like they figured out they could no longer hound him out of office without serious risk to Johnson.)

It's pathetic + desperate.

Why do you have such a low opinion of a large number of people, simply based on their choice of newspaper? Really strange.

Yes the Mail are worried they can't hound Starmer out of office now without exposing Johnson too much. Now you're getting it...

I agree. But there we have it, a large number of people allow themselves to be distracted by utter bollocks on a daily basis.

Perhaps, but based on being a daily mail reader, it's not a great starting point.

Au contraire I would say that is a perfectly fair conclusion.

If you are politically more right wing, there are plenty of better quality actual NEWSpapers you can choose to read.

The Daily Heil is a salacious, insidious, spiteful, rag that purports to be a serious newspaper but in reality is just as bad a gossip sheet as all the red tops. It is the masquerade that makes it so insidious.

If people read it and believe what they read, then it says an awful lot about their intellect.

So a fair target I would say

I braved the comments section on some of the Starmer stories this morning and I think that The Mail has misread the room on this.

It is far from universal acceptance of their propaganda stories. Surprisingly, there are a lot of comments hitting back at The Mail.

Sweeping statements about newspaper readers is almost borderline racism . In some ways
