They may as well do that now - and give Labour a fighting chance of becoming a Party that people want to vote for.

Which is why neither Johnson or Sunak will resign. No honour and total belief they are always right. To coin a phrase...scum!

If, IF Starmer and Rayner get fined and them resign, then it will be fascinating to see how:

A) Right wing press spin it so no pressure on Johnson (there is only a false equivalence when it suits them)

B) How the usual suspects on here spin it.

It will be total silence and their focus will be shifted towards immigrants in boats and it blaming the EU for the NI protocol ,

Well it's not the fine that is the reason that he would resign, it would just be his position would be Untenable and hypocritical if he doesn't after calling for it.

It is amazing seeing some people gunning for Starmer, who has not been fined. Yet they seem silent about Johnson, who has been fined + has presided over a downing st that got 50+ fines at last count. + there are apparently more fines incoming for downing st + likely Johnson too.

I'm not calling for him to resign and I don't think it's an resignation matter for anyone as personally it isn't an criminal offence anx the rules were absurd....BUT that isn't why kier would resign if he gets found to break the rules, it's the hypocrisy that he would get found to be and a man whose whole being is integrity and honorable.

Oh Johnson has no integrity or morals at all. He won't resign just because Starmer did.

But...

Johnson will look an even bigger shit if Starmer goes for a far smaller issue while Johnson stays after being party king of downing st.

Don’t we all set our own ‘moral bar’ ? If he gets fined then yes, it’s his own fault and he will have the integrity to resign, that is the honourable thing to do. You think it’s ok for our PM to tell the nation to stick to the rules whilst he broke them himself and not resign , so you obviously have very low moral standards

Starmer thinks breaking covid rules is a resigning matter, he has now stated that if he is fined he will resign and you ‘think’ he is just pretending to have integrity , no wonder you vote Tory Who is saying he is pretending????? im saying he set his moral bar and now it looks like he wont meet it,nobody to blame except himself.

Don’t we all set our own ‘moral bar’ ? If he gets fined then yes, it’s his own fault and he will have the integrity to resign, that is the honourable thing to do. You think it’s ok for our PM to tell the nation to stick to the rules whilst he broke them himself and not resign , so you obviously have very low moral standards I would hazzard a guess that a lot of people would think anyone who participates in a swingers site has low moral standards, personally i dont and thats why you have to live by your own standards not others.

Yet you are criticising Starmer for ‘living by his own standards’ . Nope not criticising him at all its all his own fault nobody else's.

It is his ‘own fault’ for living by his own standards? That Is something to admire, "

Im glad he does, as i said i think most people do its just that everybody has different moral standards.Obviously mine are different from yours.

"So Starmer has too much integrity?

Well been caught lying a few times already in this "-gate" so....

But you said above his being is integtrity...

Yes that's what he thinks is "him" ...former DPP and a QC yada yada yada

I don't think he has much integrity but he thinks he does

This has to be a wind up, so he is just resigning to pretend he has integrity but really he doesn’t have any

That's my personal view.... but if he didn't resign then it would show he doesn't, he's already been caught lying about the situation

This is definitely a wind up, let me guess, your a Tory voting Boris fan? Starmer thinks breaking covid rules is a resigning matter, he has now stated that if he is fined he will resign and you ‘think’ he is just pretending to have integrity , no wonder you vote Tory Who is saying he is pretending????? im saying he set his moral bar and now it looks like he wont meet it,nobody to blame except himself.

Right, so it’s good that he is sticking to his principles, he has no one else to blame if he gets fined but he has the integrity to resign if he does, I admire that

"

It’s an absolute blinder of a play if you think about it…

If Durham police do nothing, he still has the moral high ground over Johnson and can still put pressure on him to resign

If Durham police do fine him, he has the moral high ground on integrity by resigning, and puts even more pressure on Johnson and sunak to do likewise…

This is why I really think this is a battle the tories and right wing media can’t win on!!!

Just an observation but, hypothetically, if he had been tipped the wink that no charges were going to be made, it's a clever strategy as it would leave him free to attack Boris and Rishi from the moral high ground

The goodlawproject were about to sue the met for ignoring partygate. It feels like that is what caused the met to finally investigate. Reason 1 anyway.

Reason 2 feels like the met were trying to bury the Sue Grey report just as it was about to come out.

'It had already been called a "prawn Balti-matum". But Sir Keir Starmer's pledge to quit if he's fined over "beergate" looks like a desperate gamble.

After being backed into a "korma" for days, the Labour leader certainly came out fighting. But he looked tense and his nine-minute statement was clearly rehearsed.

We now know why he pulled out of a speech to the policy wonks of the Institute for Government and - rudely, his critics would claim - missed the memorial service for former Tory minister James Brokenshire.

His statement was obviously an attempt to set the record straight. But even his most loyal supporters would say it was a statement he should have made weeks ago.

Angela Rayner - who Labour initially denied had been present at the "beergate" curry, later said he'd also quit if she's fined. Bet she's delighted at being forced to back the Starmer karma.'

I can hear the Song right now, lol.

Alternate view: lawyers holding the government and institutions to account in a way that is incredibly important for us all.

Are you really asking why they wanted to delay a report that is supposedly damning at a time when Johnson was teetering on the edge? If you think really, reaally hard, you might be able to figure it out.

(Here's a hint. governments like kicking things into the long grass and releasing them at a time when they think public anger is less and the story won't be noticed as much.)

I’m sure the 000s of people who had loved ones who died alone with families forbidden from visiting them will all feel the same as you!

Interestingly of course, if IF Starmer is fined then Durham Police will need to revisit the case involving Dominic Cummings, the one Johnson squashed!

He has pulled a blinders here. If he gets no fine it allows him to put more pressure on Boris...though maybe without effect. If he does get fined and resigns then even more makes Boris position untenable.

New leaders all round and labour looking far better. He may not win next election...but he could be responsible for his party doing so....

Look at the cynical right wingers in here, always seeing the worst in people who are not in their gang.

That’s the tory mindset, we are corrupt, everyone else is, we like to break rules, so does everyone else. It is realpolitik as they claim, it’s speaks more the criminality and incompetence which is at the heart of the tory ethos.

People see right through this now, they see that other opposition parties have more integrity and honour in their little fingers than the entire cabal of tory politicians.

Every day this matter continues, the more stupid the Beergate allegations will become, and people will be laughing the utter desperation and straw clutching of the opposition seeing how much of a bunch of clowns they are.

Both these posts are spot on.

I would have a lot of respect for someone with the courage to say:

“I voted for Johnson and the Tories but I now realise I backed a wrong’un”

But sadly most simply cannot admit they made a mistake. Same with voting Leave for Brexit. They just become more and more entrenched and double down. It’s almost like a cult and as with most cults they haven’t figured that the cult leader, Johnson, couldn’t give a fig about them, any of them! They are all just pawns to help him and his to enrich themselves. Johnson probably cannot believe his luck!

‘Another’ ? Who was the last one ?

Corbyn was another champagne socialist wanker.

How is this related to Conservative voters allowing themselves to be distracted by the news that Starmer once had a beer?"

starmer has beer and curry and stretches 200 quid across 30 ppl. Gets called out for being a champagne socialist.

Worked you way up to middle class? How do you calculate what class you are? If you have a working class accent you will never be accepted as middle class , just a token working class man trying to be something he isn’t , btw, why would you want to claim your middle class?
