Government seems to put a lot of pressure on individuals to cut consumption.
What about businesses? How can they cut their usage?
Well, we could suspend Sunday trading laws, that would reduce energy usage in businesses. Possibly extending it to all industries who require Sunday working.
What about all businesses closing at 11? Many cities seem to require businesses to be open 24/7 or late.
We don’t need to sacrifice a lot if we make minor changes now, and our economy will not suffer much. |

How about forcing businesses and rented buildings to install renewables or face a Business Rate surcharge?
Too late for this winter, but would have significant reduction on demand.
Exemption Certs for impractical buildings to avoid rate increase unfairly. |

it won't make any difference. the country has reduced energy consumption every year for 30 years and the energy companies just increase prices to make up the shortfall, despite being told that under a capitalist system, reduced demand lowers prices. |

The Government could have mandated both renewable energy use and energy efficiency measures in its own estate and fleet along with the private sector.
That would provide demand and therefore investment security for companies to set up to deliver with the scale and competition reducing prices.

This.
Even if energy was free to produce it would still cost the consumer.

Fully agree with this..
Taxpayers money, consumed and burnt into CO2 when they should be setting an example. Once the investment is recovered, its then free apart from 5 weeks of the year, the surplus exported in summer would cover.
How much large Government and Council owned roof space is not being utilised.
