Great idea! I've argued for a state owned option for decades but why stop there? State owned bank? That was shot down the minute I suggested here by.....all the labour supporters. A state owned option across the board is the way, then capitalism is automatically monitored

The UK isn't a socialist country, we have a very right wing government who don't give a shit about the people, and serve the interests of their corporate backers.

And I asked you a question about your case. I'm not stating a case either way. I'm interested in what you think is wrong with a socialist government.

When you say "big government controlling everything", what do you mean? Do you mean universal healthcare and such? Most people consider that to be a good thing. What else is the government supposed to be for if it's not for serving the people.

Such a childish view of freedom you have, that freedom doesn’t come without responsibility. But then again your country has only been in existence for a couple of hundred years. Whilst this nation has been around for hundreds of years.

it's just utterly stupid to rely on government to control all aspects of your lives. It's like a free for all. Blame government for you whoas for everything. Here is a novel idea.. look in the mirror.. no government cares about what you are looking at.

So @Blu by extension your nirvana must be the eradication of the nation state?

How small is small enough for you?

County?

Town?

Village?

Hamlet?

Single household?

Where is it you draw the line for “society” to stop working collectively and for people to only operate individually?

Are you saying that when the government provides a service for the population, such as healthcare, that this is "control"?

Well it's certainly going to be interesting to see what Labour has to offer at the next general election.

It's usually the Tories coming to power with the country's finances in meltdown after years of Labour mismanagement, so it's going to be interesting to see how Labour deals with the situation.

Not directly for the crash but the management up to and during, maybe.

You might find this helpful:

"Tony Blair has accepted some responsibility for the state of Britain's economy after admitting his government failed to understand the complexity of the financial sector or foresee that it was on the brink of crisis." Asked if that meant Labour did not fully understand it while he was in power, he replied: "No, we didn't."

The trouble with state owned stuff is the waste.

Of the £bns that go to the NHS only 14% actually goes to the front line, 86% is wasted with administration, etc. compared to 80% in a private hospital.

Does ‘administration’ include salaries?

I guess it’s become an unmanageable behemoth?

Apparently, the NHS is still the largest buyer in the world of Fax machines can you believe?

Jeez tribalism is a great game as we can always blame the other lot. The roots of the financial crisis in 2008 go back waaaay further than Blair’s Labour Govt and were international in nature. The Tory’s deregulated the financial markets. Labour left them as is. Whose to blame? Well all of them to some extent but actually and mostly, those working in the Finance Sector who were a bunch of crooks (guess where people like Sunak was working at that point?)

Well it's certainly going to be interesting to see what Labour has to offer at the next general election.

It's usually the Tories coming to power with the country's finances in meltdown after years of Labour mismanagement, so it's going to be interesting to see how Labour deals with the situation.

Are you blaming labour for the banking crash in 2008?

Not directly for the crash but the management up to and during, maybe.

You might find this helpful:

"Tony Blair has accepted some responsibility for the state of Britain's economy after admitting his government failed to understand the complexity of the financial sector or foresee that it was on the brink of crisis." Asked if that meant Labour did not fully understand it while he was in power, he replied: "No, we didn't."

Why did you mention tribalism? "

Your post was the jumping off point regardless of your intent but so many people try to point finger of blame at the team that isn’t theirs. What about my other points?

My post was answering a question and the start of the post actually said not to blame, and then provided Blair's quote of responsibility.

Tribalism indeed

As for your other points, to be honest, someone would need to need to have been under a rock to not know how the financial institutions behaved

Princes Risborough, Luasanne, Alderney

if the 2008 crash was caused by financial institutions behaving badly, then is Krazy Twateng doing the right thing by his removing of the regulations that prevent future bad behaviour?

"it's just utterly stupid to rely on government to control all aspects of your lives. It's like a free for all."

Eh? He's talking about A nationalised energy company. If the privately owned ones- or the ones wholly owned by other states' governments- are better run, then buy from them.

God knows, I think the best financial people are already ready working for or in the US, so potentially it could cause problems in the UK markets.

We all know the issue with these institutions, they make everything so hard to understand it takes several years to uncover the wrong doing and by that time it is usually too late.

It started going wrong for kwasi the very first moment he walked into the treasury and sacked the most senior civil servant

It screamed I know better than you… irony that one of the people who would have been able to allay some fears is that chief sec

There are not many occasions you can say “Rishi warned you…..” but……

I was thinking exactly that about Rishi.

I bet he looks smugger than ever.

It's mostly Rees Mogg, he wants to remove the regulations on Somerset Investment Management.

"Great idea! I've argued for a state owned option for decades but why stop there? State owned bank? That was shot down the minute I suggested here by.....all the labour supporters. A state owned option across the board is the way, then capitalism is automatically monitored socialism at it finest.

No you don’t understand, don’t worry you’re American, I can forgive the fact that selfishness is a cultural trait of the American mindset, so it’s not your fault. idk maybe we can have someone from Venezuela chime in. You know the ones fleeing the country to America.

Oh NOW you want to mention Venezuela!! Bit rich since you spent your time in the trump thread belittling them trying to defend desantis! "

Show me where on the other post I said I didn't want migrants. If you are fine with 50 migrants dying in a packed semi trailer. Compared to shipping 50 migrants to sanctuary cities your the delusional one.
