To be fair calling someone African-American isn’t considered racist?
The key thing is what do people within that group call themselves. I believe many (most/all?) call themselves British Asian? |

But he is British Asian. By saying it's racist to acknowledge that, aren't we implying that not being white British is an undesirable trait that should be swept under the carpet? And (admittedly making an assumption here) it's probably a part of his identity that's important to him and that he's proud of. |

or merely British
I've no time for him - he's a tory and therfore... richly deserving of many pejorative ephithets. but if he identifies as British then any other term which references his heritage *is* racist |

If that's the criteria and he does not identify like that then the bbc, Sky and channel 4 are all guilty if racism then. Also think sturgen also described him this way |

Born in Southampton, went to Winchester, worked at Goldman and worth apparently twice as much as the king!!!
I may not be a fan of his politics but not bad for a 1 generation Brit!!!
I am way more offended by him being a former hedge fund manager than I am about the colour of his skin or religion |

Agreed. Such a shame we still live in a world where creed is even a topic that merits discussion, but we are sadly. It IS a good thing to have the first “person of colour” holding the top job in the UK. It is equally a shame this lacks full legitimacy as it is not the result of a general election. Personally I feel it is also a shame he is a far right Tory but that doesn’t take away his achievement. |

Rishi's grandparents lived in India/Pinjab where we come from and then Rishi's parents came to the UK in the 50 or early 60's. Rishi is Indian
It is a big deal that the UK has their first non white PM a historical moment just like when Thatcher was the first lady PM. When the media is stating he is "asain" by that they mean south Indian ie could be and or parents etc orginated from Indian, Pakistan, Bangledesh, Sirlanka etc etc.
As with most British citizens and I am a British Indian citizen, I and millions of others do not care where he was born etc but do recognise the fact as stated above being historical.
What I and millions other care about is getting the UK out of this mess and as Rishi said all alnong and Truss and her supporters could not and did not want to see is that the UK is on her knees and the only way out is via tax rises, cuts and another windfall tax on oil/gas co.s
FYI, we own several propeties lice around London and are higer rate/40% tax payers but we are no fools as if we were left with dangerous Truss and her incompetent supporters inc Penny Mourdant etc - by the end of the year the bank of England would have crashed and everyone with a private pension/saving etc would have lost everthing
Rish atm does appear and has said from the first time he stood for PM, he appears honest and realitc but sadly many will say many nasty things about him just be they do not see him as ...... |
