According to the Daily Telegraph, Poland will become a wealthier nation than the United Kingdom in just seven years time.

A highly educated population and post-communist economic drive is making Poland a shining star within the European community of nations.

If Putin's mate Trump gets back in they are going to need to be.

Europeans could invest in their own armed forces instead of relying on American forces being garrisoned all the time. The UK has it's own US garrisons too mind you but the point still stands.

What like a European Army?

That would trigger some people I think.

Better work ethic and fewer freeloaders off the state.

Didn't Poland tell the eu to go f**K themselves not so long ago over laws and

Bureaucracy that they wanted out of and that they stated were not inline with Poland's vision of economic fulfilment and destiny. Looks like they may of done it their way.

Every EU country with the exception of the UK appears to have or have had sovereignty - poor Little Britain..

Damn brexit as a builder I could have gone to Poland undercut their tradesmen taking a lower wages and sent most my earnings back home while still being able to live reasonably comfortable over there.

It is not relying on American forces. The Americans will defend their shores and interests at the furthest distance from their shores. US troops based in Europe is an American interest, not a European one.

Right and we don't need to be there anymore.

They have been trying to after having taken EU money to build their economy and infrastructure.

They still want it. Just like Hungary...

Except, like Hungary, a move to state control of the judiciary and the press. A distinct lurch back towards state capture.

I wonder if the growth remains if the EU funding is withdrawn or if democracy starts to wither?

Who can begrudge them if they make it. They will also have to overtake Italy and France before. Then maybe overtake Germany. Apparently India are on course to get to at least number 3 in the world, possibly number 2

Can you explain what you mean by your phrase, post-communist economic drive?

"Right and we don't need to be there anymore."

Well, yes and no, to be fair.

No because it's a drain on your resources and tax dollars.

Yes because your enemies (and ours) are all around the world and you need to be close to them to effectively police them and keep them in check.

I do think a federal European army is the way forward however, since whilst the USA and the UK are allies, we still compete on the world economic stage, as does the EU.

They need to watch us as much as we need to watch you, and you need to watch us as much as you need to watch them.

Friends don't stay friends forever. Only as long as it suits either party.

To me the phrase means the period after communism in countries like China, Russia, Poland etc. Rigid communist controls over industry and commerce were reformed into market-led models resulting in stronger economies.

Yes definitely, it took the UK decades to recover from two back-to-back World Wars, and arguably we still haven't.

That is interesting, I would not necessarily consider the impact of events on the economy after such a length of time. Having thought about it I guess events could lead to a slow down and any advantages a country had could be lost as other countries accelerate their own growth. Having said that, I would imagine there is a measure of how quickly a country can regain its footing after major events?

Surely as part of the EU if they over take say France they will have to pay in to the EU pot not take out. Don't realy know how it works but the people are harder working and more productive. And if investment is in manufacturing its not hard to see them pasin the UK
