US will 'move on' from Ukraine

The USA will abandon trying to broker a Russia-Ukraine peace deal within days unless there are clear signs a truce can be reached, says US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"We're not going to continue with this endeavour for weeks and months on end," Rubio said, adding that the US had "other priorities to focus on".

On other outlets Russia has amassed 67,000 troops in the Sumy region for what looks like a major offensive. USA will be aware of this

Out of peace talks, where does that leave USA with military assistance against a probable Russian offensive.

This year could be Ukraine’s capitulation if USA is out.

Unfortunate but I am not surprised; Trump has been looking for any excuse to back away from Ukraine... challenging times ahead...

It is up to the coalition of the willing to sort this one out led by our bloke.

Time to start conscripting Labour Party voters and people with Ukraine flags on their dustbins.

Game over for Russia.

looking from the outside i dont think there has ever been an intention from Russia to end the war so think we are now looking at a wider European conflict especially with the USA backing out. dark times ahead.

European countries have provided €132 billion in aid (military, financial and humanitarian) as of December 2024, and the United States has provided €114 billion (of a total USA pledge of $175bn).

In April 2025, Ukraine's European allies have pledged another €21bn ($24bn; £18bn) in a new tranche of military support for Kyiv.

Assuming these figures are accurate the European allies will have to at least double their ongoing commitments if USA withdraws support.

Added to that is the intelligence USA provides, when Trump suspended this a few weeks ago Russian missile bombardments were more successful. Possibly the mineral deal could be used to pay for ongoing support, but Trump has proved unreliable.

Will Europe really call up troops for an engagement against Russia? If the Sumy reports are true the offensive could be imminent, with Putin waiting on USA withdrawal of support.

Putin won't back down and if the USA walk away Putin will carry on. There's reports that Ukraine has captured 2 Chinese soldiers.

Putin gets what he wants from them. A lazy form of negotiation that's largely just asked and given him what he wants.

It highlights how inept they are and the poor state of the world today

In other news there's progress on the minerals deal that Trump wants with Ukraine

Trump over promised something he didn't understand. Putin has strung him alobg and he has just realised it now. No need for a minerals deal if US is walking away. Putin is loving every minute of this

I’m not fully enamored by the prospect of putting British troops on the ground in Ukraine, even less so after the US back away. Putting them in the line of fire, and then declaring war when they get shot and killed, is not a good look for us. World wars have started over less.

He has acted on many of his promises already, and to call him the weakest leader of all nations is something I would never have expected to hear, especially when I look closer to home.

Two years ago it was reported the British SAS had more special forces operatives working in and with Ukraine than any other ally country.

As for putting troops in Ukraine to fight, I can’t see it happening. But what does that leave for Ukraine. Russia recently made another substantial 160,000 conscription in March. I maintain Ukraine may fall this year without USA support and intelligence.

Trump also needs to concentrate on calling out Israel for its war crimes they have been committed against the Palestinian people and all the aid workers it's slaughtered. Any other country wouldnt get away with it.

USA supplied all the bombs for that. In excess 100,000 tonnes so far

Very likely.

The EU will never provide the support Ukraine needs. They are all hot air.

The US pulled out of Afghanistan when it suited them. I don’t know why people think they won’t do the same with Ukraine.

There are only two sorts of people who voted for Trump, idiots and billionaires. If you're unsure which category you're in, check your bank balance.
