Are you also following of who will be the next pope? They have started the process of schoosing a new one, but after few days black smoke is seen from sistine chapel as cardinals fail to elect a new one.
Did you know the longest time it took to choose one? It took 1000 days to elect pope clement iv, since 1831 however, the process has usually have lasted less than a week, some are saying that it could take longer than usual can we see something similar this time around too?
I dont think it will be 1000 days, but I also reckon it will take a bit longer than usual.
Who do you think it will be? One of the front runners are jose tlentino de mendonca, it will be interesting to see who it will be too |

I was at a friend's home for about an hour yesterday where 'always on' religious telly is the norm and the screen showed a scene of nothing happening other than a couple of gulls waddling near the chimney of interest.
Below was the square packed with thousands of people all facing said chimney, seemingly happy to wait for as long as it took for something to happen whenever it might.
I couldn't help pondering over how powerful is the force of group mentality, in this case as a manifestation of the power of religion.
Just not my style at all. I expect that while I get on with my telly and religion free life today, my friends will have the same images running as their almost obligatory human company.
I wonder what the gulls are making of it all?

Humans are inherently social creatures with a common understanding of life and death. This outlook tends to group together like minded people, offering a collective reassurance.
Seagulls no of nothing other than creating terror wins the food. |

I don't know who it will be Shag.
I am interested though as whoever is elected will have a huge influence over many people worldwide. It's a position that can be used for great good (or otherwise). I hope they choose well and wisely |

I think it will come down to whether the majority of cardinals feel that the church should continue to head in a more modern or more traditional direction and whether they want a younger Pope who will have time to make their own personality felt (like John Paul 2) |

I didn't know the BBC was getting a new Director General " one of the main reasons i opted out of the tv license was because they seem to cover for kiddy fiddlers |

Anyone else had random messages of someone about this thread? Just had a mail from someone saying he has reported my posts and other people's and he hopes admin does there job, have just looked through the posts and can't see anything that breaks any rules, and to top it all he blocked Mr from replying,my guess is its someone who is no longer allowed to post in the forums otherwise he wouldn't resort to private mailing people |

I wonder who that could possibly be.
Have you reported the email, and your suspicions about who it came from? I'm sure the admins would like to know if that person has got himself a new account, just to carry on hassling people. |

I was watching a YouTube video a couple of days ago. A bloke got arrested for sharing a picture on Facebook that had been shared hundreds of times already by others. Nothing illegal about the photo but because someone “felt anxious” after seeing it, they called the police.
7 police attended the house in the end because he refused to go to a “voluntary interview” or sign a community resolution order admitting his guilt. At the station they told him he could either admit to it or he’d be kept overnight before he could speak to his lawyer.
The next morning he was “released under investigation” and two years later they still haven’t dropped it. All because he wouldn’t go along with what the police wanted.
Seeing more and more of this lately |

If he refused to attend the 'voluntary interview', how did he end up in the station? |

You mean he *should* have been offered legal advice. The police are very good at misleading people as to what their rights are. |

No “interview” took place. He was questioned at his home without being cautioned, despite being told he was suspected of committing a criminal offence which violates PACE. |

This shows that the rule of do not engage ignore is always the best policy when dealing with them if they show up at your door. Don’t open the door or talk to them if you have not called them.
Have had both good and bad dealings with them so not all. But too many just go on a power trip. |

I'm sure there are officers that act fairly and lawfully. And then there are officers that feel frustrated by the rules, and so the bend them to get the result that they think is right. |

Give the average person bit of credit please..
Yes there's life experience etc but most kids now and going back are savvy enough to have some idea..
Not disagreeing with your latter point, some are complete pieces of work as has always been the case..

Both. Being suspected of committing a crime doesn’t mean you committed one.
Unless the police see you committing a crime they have to investigate. If I called them and said you threw a brick at my car, they would tell you that someone has accused you of throwing a brick at a car. Assuming they actually investigated which is seriously unlikely. You would be under suspicion, but you’ve not actually done it. |

Just to be clear, they didn’t say he couldn’t speak to his lawyer, they said he had to wait until the next morning. No idea what time it was but it was daylight.
I follow the PINAC movement as I’m a professional photographer. When on public land or publicly accessible land, under section 33 of the criminal justice act, you can legally photograph or film, anything you can see without needing anyone’s permission.
Once saw 20 odd police officers come out from a police station to prevent someone with a camera filming their car park. Something they are legally allowed to do.
Not all police are bad people obviously, but the profession does attract bullies and tyrants |

But earlier on you said that the police visited because the guy had shared an entirely legal photo, and someone felt anxious after seeing it. That's a Non-Crime Hate Incident, not something for which you can be arrested. In a later post you said that the police warned the man that he was suspected of committing a crime, which led to an arrest.
So it would appear that your first description of what happened was inaccurate, given that the police had evidence that an actual crime had been committed. |

Obviously it's difficult to conclude much about the car park filming, based on the very limited information. Perhaps it could have been perceived as a security risk, as dangerous criminals would be likely to be there, some of the time. There are, I assume, restrictions in other places, such as military venues, visible from a public space? |

There's a group of people calling themselves 'auditors' that go around filming people in the hope of provoking a reaction. They then post the videos online, and get ad money from the views.
They particularly like filming the police, as the police are trained to spot suspicious behaviour, and standing outside a place of work filming the people going in and out is quite suspicious. Sadly there's always one gobby officer with a poor grasp of the law who comes out and gives the auditor exactly the footage they want.
I hear that one of them makes quite a good living just from the compensation payments for assault and false arrest when the police decide that he isn't being cooperative and should be made to do so. |
