Latest polls suggest that Karol Nawrocki has won Poland’s Presidential election, narrowly beating opponent Rafal Trzaskowski.
This is seen as a blow to the EU globalists who favoured Nawrocki’s opponent.
Nawrocki is supported by the Law and Justice party, the previous government, and his victory will enable him to continue blocking regressive legislation from the current “centrist” government led by former EU apparatchik Donald Tusk.
Among other things Nawrocki has committed to blocking Ukraine’s accession to NATO.
Is this good or bad news?
Poland seems to be one of Europe’s rarer success stories in recent years and its electorate has shown a willingness on occasion to think and act independently rather than simply toeing the globalist line. Probably linked to wanting to preserve its economic progress. |

The same economic progress that it gained courtesy of the investment from the EU. |

I’m not familiar with Polish politics other than their hatred for their neighbours on both sides, but especially the Russians. Geographically they are in the front line of course.
We may find out quite soon that under Trump, the NATO alliance isn’t worth much more than that paper it’s written on. And there’s a lot of resentment of the EU in many member states so they won’t be alone there.
But having said all of that, if Western Europe wants to stand firm in the face Russian aggression, we’re better off together. |

European countries aren't happy with the current political policies or where they are going.
The rise in the popularity of nationalist politicians such as Farage, Le Pen, Nawrocki etc. obviously shows that change is needed and that the status quo is not an option.
How Nawrocki and Poland interact with the EU and NATO going forward is going to be interesting. |
