I don't know the estimated numbers on either side, but it seems as though it was a more peaceful protest/counter protest than we have had in recent times. |

I don't know the estimated numbers on either side, but it seems as though it was a more peaceful protest/counter protest than we have had in recent times. "

Media attention wasn't probably the only one. Police presence too played a part. Overall, the protestors realised that a few people indulging in violence is good enough to give a bad branding for all the protestors. So I wouldn't be surprised if the protest organisers went far and above to ensure that there is no violence. |

Media attention wasn't probably the only one. Police presence too played a part. Overall, the protestors realised that a few people indulging in violence is good enough to give a bad branding for all the protestors. So I wouldn't be surprised if the protest organisers went far and above to ensure that there is no violence."
The police did indeed use legal powers to divert the protest to avoid any violence developing. That was probably a main factor, rather than media attention.
So, credit to Merseyside Police for responding to the situation and managing such a potentially volatile event.

Spend taxpayers money on making their cars look gay while complaining about lack of resources.

As a relative of a police officer who had to change into their uniform at work to avoid confrontation I know the above to be untrue.

To be fair the police are doing a pretty good job generally of concealing themselves from the population.
I can’t recall the last time I saw one waddling down the street.
Here’s some examples of their amazing crime solve rates (2023 England and Wales):
Overall: 5.7%

All summer the right have been trying to turn these protests into something like last years Farage riots.
It hasn't happened, a few hundreds of racists at most have turned out shagging the flag of a Turkish immigrant.

Back to the OP.
The Bristol protests were approx 35 anti-immigrant (protesting against asylum seekers, they don't seem to know the difference). And about 500 non-racists.

Or perhaps using it kept him and his ships safe in that strategic port. It got somehow conflated with St George because the people using the flag liked tales of religious knights... And St George was a saint tho killed a dragon (with a lance), so fit the bill. Around the 14/15th century, it all got formalised as St George becoming patron saint of England, and the red on white cross (from Italy) becoming the flag. |

Thanks for your answer, so on passing through Genoa he saw a flag he liked or thought it would protect his boats.
Later this flag was adopted into an English version which we still use today, is generally what I read.
So I will take from that the flag was never British, it was adopted from another country, and placed into our society.
So the original poster was right in his assumptions that this flag of st George isn't English. |

Very little in Christianity is English (outside of Anglican). It's predominantly Judean, Galilean, Turkish, otherwise levantine or Roman (and a few other areas for orthodox denominations).
St George was a Roman soldier from Turkey (Greek, at the time), whose mother was from Judea (recently renamed Syria Palestinia).
