Starmer’s Hard Left Reshuffle

Jump to: Newest in thread

By (user no longer on site) OP    35 weeks ago

So Starmer has reshuffled his team of “economic advisers”.

In are more “posh twits” from the billionaire founded Resolution Foundation, to join archetypal Labour MP Torsten Bell (Winchester, PPE at Oxford, Public Admin at LSE then MP for, er, Swansea West). At least Bell speaks the same language as today’s average Labour voter.

And as a sign that the Left’s Carousel of Failure is alive and well in comes Minouche Shafik, most famous for having to leave her role as President of Columbia University after it descended into anti semitic chaos. She will feel right at home in the Labour Party.

None of this bodes well for hard working people of course, as government economic policy is further entrenched in the hands of people who’ve never done a productive day’s work in their lives, and think people are motivated by having their hard earned savings taken off them.

And the market response? 30 year gilts at their highest for 27 years, 10 year gilts above the levels when Truss apparently “crashed the economy”.

Meanwhile Starmer has another Director of Communications, because communication, not policy, is the problem.

... prompting predictable, performative scorn from tedious headbangers for whom the only correct thing anyone to the left of 30p Lee could do is die.

Whereas it's extremely comfortable having a worldview where anyone who doesn't agree with you is necessarily a shill.

You've popped up with the very definition of the left there.

I've told you before I'm not a labour voter, I was yawning at the predictable and frankly boring post, if you actually took your blue tinted glasses off for one moment you'd realise they are all as bad as each other.

Funny how I don't remember seeing any of your post's about the comical merry-go-round that was the Tory leadership in the final two years?

What was it you were saying yesterday about seeing the "big picture"? Can't have it both ways, mate.

Not surprising. Yesterday he spent hours folding himself in half trying to argue that it's totally fine for Badenoch to just make shit up as she sees fit.

Ah, yeah, here it is:

"I see the big picture and don't fall for ideological BS"

Sound familiar?

Maybe stop quoting chapter-and-verse of the "ideological BS" you haven't fallen for, then?

Another knee-jerk reaction from the left on this thread. The OP raises a perfectly valid point on an item of news that's worthy of discussion on a Politics forum. But immediately we get insults and childish remarks instead. See my point?

Another click bait post designed to cause division.

No.

It's not a perfectly valid point. He's just slagging off people he hates. And you're pitching in with your "the left" shit while claiming elsewhere to be a paragon of balance.

You guys' political outlooks would be laughable if they weren't proto-fascist.

"If one turns to the English newspapers of the years 1921 and 1922 one finds that the old women of both sexes in our country were just as hysterical then about alleged Fascist "outrages" in Italy."

Your boy Viscount Rothermere there, dismissing the "hysteria" of the opponents of Nazism in a newspaper you've described as not as bad for bias and lies as the Guardian.

I recommend reading the whole article for a sobering look at how those on the right can be so prone to blithely rubbishing concerns about incipient fascism. Rothermere thought of himself as a moderate voice too, while systematically espousing the positions of the extreme right.

Bath

Rearranging the deckchairs on the titanic. Steamer is done for. Reeves is done for. Ange ‘woman of the people’ is a proven tax avoider and has somehow conjured a net worth of £4.5m whilst only ever working in the public sector….Milibellend has 2 kitchens (presumably for making lots of bacon sandwiches), minister for corruption is under investigation for corruption, West of England Mayor/MP under investigation for serious sexual crimes, former transport secretary sacked for previous fraud claim, former Runcorn MP sacked and nearly (should’ve been) jailed for common assault, Andrew Gwynn sacked for racist and sexist tweets, business secretary found to have lied about being a solicitor……. And let us not forget that Labour have pretty much done the exact opposite of everything in their ‘manifesto’….

This is all in 12 months of becoming the government. Phenomenal.

You commented on the thread for several hours. Posts are time-stamped on here, go check for yourself if you want.

I don't really need to flatter myself, given that you've admitted to literally monitoring the times of day I post at, but it is true that your posts do read like you haven't spent any time on them. Or thought.

Just imagine the pantomime if reform gets in though

Terra Firma

Starmer’s long over due change was to tackle his biggest mistake of appointing Reeves as Chancellor. Bringing in Baroness Minouche Shafik as chief economic advisor adds some credibility, and it brings into doubt Reeves's position, regardless of how many times Starmer tells us he is backing her! I would imagine he is going to regret not doing this sooner, when he faces into the expected pressure of the Autumn budget.. At least he now has the option of throwing Reeves to the wolves.

This move has cleared the optics in my opinion, he no longer trusts Reeves, and hopefully it is the first step towards her removal.
