From the land of haribos. |
Where you also aware that there was a petition against the governments plans for new digital id card?
Many are surprised of how many signed it, but it kind of was expected wasnt it, it have now reached 2 million signature and encounting. I wonder how many more millions it will be.
This comes as starmer announced their plan on friday to impose mandatory id card, instead of their plan going smoothly its been a backlash of millions that dont want it.
What is your view about the id cards, are they good and what do you think of the shear amount of number of signatures?
I agree with them that we dont need more control than we already have

"I'm against them and see them as a pointless waste of money that will achieve virtually nothing. Not finished for years, so they might not happen "
The fines/non compliance system that will go with it should pay for the scheme |

We already have a passport, driving licence, NHS number, NI number, so what is the actual problem with all that in 1 digital document? I don't understand why people are so much against it.
I would welcome it |

Compulsion - you need to pay the government for the right to exist.
Everyone of the other things you listed you can choose whether or not to have. Life may not be easy without them, but you are free to choose.
If you create something of use people will choose to have it.
With this I am going to be forced to pay for something that adds nothing to my life.

"You have to ay to renew passport, new licence every 10yrs, so what the difference paying for these things through an ID card, or individually?"
I'll still need a paper passport and a physical driving licence to show to Johnny Foreigner when I'm on holiday. So this other ID will be an extra expense on top of what I'm already paying. |

I can choose whether I renew my passport and driving licence or not. As it happens I still have my valid paper driving licence which was a once and done payment. |

Yes, a return to the world war 2 times.
“Where are your papers”
As we’re heading for world war three, they’ll need it to catch draft dodgers.
It’s a no from me. This country is going downhill so fast.

The issue is, If they manage to make it law and you're required to have them you will have no choice, You will only say no for so long until they force your employers to only employ people with ID cards or they will be fined shut down etc

I’m still on my original licence issued in the 1980’s, it doesn’t expire until my 70th birthday |

It's NOT a card, it's digital, and it won't apply to millions of British citizens |

If millions do not comply, the economic result of all those people not contributing taxes would be disastrous. It's tragic how the masses don't realise the power they have. |

Still living at the same address since the 1980s?
If you aren’t then that paper licence might not be as valid as you think it is. |

Been living at the same address since 1970.
You could still retain a paper license after an address change up until at least the late 1990’s I know at least two others who changed addresses in the late 90’s and retained the paper liscence.
The coppers on the driver awareness course I had to attend a couple of years ago were perfectly happy with my paper license.
I sent it to DVLA in 1997 for an amendment and they did the amendment and returned it too me with no request that I change to the photo type🤷🏻♂️

Kurt says “it will be easier for people to access their money”.
I find that statement quite alarming. At present, we have no issues accessing our money. What does he have planned with regards to accessing our own money?
I do not trust this government. It feels like they are turning the country into some kind of dictatorship.
The government have stated that these id’s will be up and running during this term, like it or not. |

it's obvious that both the torys and reform (if they manage to win an election outright) will scrap this in the first week. it's not like it will be of any benefit to their plan for american ICE style raids snatching folks off the street, their workplace, supermarkets etc. in order to deport millions of people who can't prove who they are. |

We have been required well not me but in the 40/50's to carry ID cards the excuse was the war but after the war people questions why they still had to carry ID cards.
Guess what people did when the government said people still had to carry them.
Yes they ripped them up.
So why have them again when our elders said no. |

They could have sold this dystopian nightmare if they weren't so stupid. National Insurance numbers could make a handy key to tie folk together. Failing that making a provisional driving licence mandatory, and use the driver number as the identity number.
It's of course about control but to be honest it's not the ID that's the issue, it's the powers they already have that could be abused more with it. Remove some of the powers and it wouldn't be so bad. |

In principal i'd be in favour, having one "passport" for everything. But, what happens if its hacked, also a bigger problem would be that the government would have full control over you. They could freeze your banks accts, stop you travelling etc. This has already been done in Canada in 2022 when they froze bank accounts of people they identified as dissidents using digital ids. |
