Let's all laugh at men wearing makeup!

Border of London

From Ru Paul and his merry ladies, to Orange Man in the White House.

When is it okay to make fun of men wearing makeup? Would everyone who refers to Donald Trump's Tangoissimo be equally as comfortable with politicised ridicule of trans women in unconvincing foundation and rouge?

Are we only allowed to laugh at those who don't "pass" the naturality test? What puts The Orange Don squarely in the centre of the Overton window of acceptable ridicule? Can we all ridicule men who wear makeup if we don't agree with their politics? Or perhaps women without makeup?

Life is very confusing nowadays.

The number of racist comments I have seen coming from the "anti-racist" crowd when they saw the news about numerous latino people voting for Trump, the number of times slurs like "oreo" and "coconut" has been used by and even defended by the left, I have stopped expecting any sort of moral consistency from them. In reality, none of them care about the values they say they care about. It's all posturing.

Specifically on body shaming, AOC mocked a republican calling him 4'10"(though I believe he was taller). Basically it's ok when they do it.

Somewhere off the edge of the map... 'ere there be monsters

Yeah, over the years I've come to notice more and more of these contradictory little paradoxes emerge.

Those who shout loudest and hardest about being inclusive... are often the most exclusatory.

Those who shout loudest and hardest about being tolerant... are often the least tolerant.

Those who shout loudest and hardest about being "anti-fascist"... are often the ones also rushing to embrace totalitarianism and side with actual fascist ideology and methodology.

Rinse and repeat with bigotry, racism, sexism, etc, etc.

Crazy times, indeed.

Back in the olden days there was a very popular telly box show called Spitting Image and it was hugely popular and I would say very important, not only did it satirise politicians it also did the same for celebs and prominent figures.

It managed to do it in a way " in my humble opinion" that didn't discriminate it took the piss out of everyone, no-one was exempt.

Trump has a massive God complex and ego, and a narcissist, if you were to make up a politician to take the piss out of you probably couldn't make one up as superbly as Trump.

Are you suggesting we censor opinions?

Taking the piss has been a staple of the British psyche for ever, learning to understand the difference between discrimination and just taking the piss is important but cancel culture is just as discriminatory and narrow minded as bigotry.

So as long as Trump is doing what he's doing, saying what he's saying and acting as he does, I for one will continue to take the piss.

Instinct tells me you might have mined the only feasible pun from this. Bravo!

Trump is an egotistical bully. He's a poor ally and prone to stabbing erstwhile friends and allies in the back if it's expedient. He's a possible r@pist and a definite sex pest. He's a misogynist and is very possibly racist - at the very least, he makes fun of racial features and laughs at stereotypes. He has little regard for world order, and is overall dangerous. That's not to say that everything he does is tainted or bad by virtue of these things, but he isn't a poster child for virtue. Nor does he pretend to be.

Satire is wonderful - it lets us punch up and plays to our sense of humour and fairness. It lets us tackle difficult subjects without bursting into tears.

But how far can we go?

Obama the n****r? The sl*ve? The raghead Ayatollah? Netanyahu the $$ grabbing Jew with space lasers and a hooked nose? When we open the door to ridicule based upon certain things, we can't close it that easily. It becomes casual. If we can laugh at Trump in makeup, why can't we laugh at Caitlyn Jenner for her terrible attempt to look feminine, including the makeup?

The opinions shouldn't be censored. People should have the right to offend and be offensive. But those who refer to Trump's make-up would often be horrified if someone were to make fun of a man wearing makeup and looking ridiculous in other circumstances.

You will find no sympathy for Trump from us. Just interest in what certain people find acceptable when shoes are on certain feet.

Or.. to put it succinctly:

People who deserve ridicule should be ridiculed. How one chooses to ridicule, however, reflects on ridiculer, not the the ridiculed.
