I may despise Reform and everything they stand for, but as a legitimate party they should have the democratic opportunity as much as everyone else has, as is right and proper.

If it means they royally screw up, then that's on them. The point is, in a democracy we give others enough rope so that we may see them by their actions.

Great question. Much as I want to say YES, some people actively choose to not visit the ballot box if they wish to show their dissatisfaction with the choices on offer. Also, some might be disinterested at one election and engaged another. As such, I come down on the NO side on this one.

I believe that voting should be compulsory. At the bottom of the ballot paper the option to tick a box marked none of the above should be available. There is no excuse not to vote with the availability of postal votes. |

He also asked Starmer the direct question "will there be any more government u-turns", to which Starmer replied "No". Less than 2 hours latter the government announces this election u-turn.

Reading some comments, ministers argued that due to local government changes in certain areas, holding expensive elections for councils that would not exist in a few years would be a waste of public money.

Now said councils are in a rush to print ballot papers and prepare polling stations.
.
Rush jobs tend to be more costly affairs than normal planned jobs.
.
Ultimately, the delay and then the reversal will be more costly in the long run.

Still, it's the right thing to do and let democracy and people have their say when they are supposed to have that chance. Kicking things in to the long grass is not a good look. |
