Officially the closest the most powerful nation have ever come to electing "millhouse" from the Simpsons as President.

Historians for years to come will wonder how the fuck we didn't see WWIII coming.

Shits about to get interesting folks.

Millhouse?

I'd have gone with Nelson Muntz or Ralph Wiggum.

Probably Ralph....

Some are racist, bitter and misogynists too.

Yup. And then we'll have to deal with a nation whinging about being discriminated against, with corporate America ruling making everyone's lives miserable. Oh and the impending doom of war. I can't believe people have been so stupid.

This is EXACTLY what makes Trump dangerous.

Running a business is NOT the same as running the most powerful nation on the planet.

You cannot say and act the way you would as a CEO of a company when you're president of the United States.

Trump is dangerous because he DOESN'T know the difference.

He doesn't know that business behaviour and Presidential behaviour are two completely different things.

As he's demonstrated the entire campaign with word-vomit that's come out of his mouth.

Just remember that the US voted in ronnie reagan who was deemed a joke yet he was the man who suceeded in getting reductions in nukes by talking straight to the russians, we can all hope that trump can do the same by not being part of a corrupt leadership that only feathers their own nest and lets face it if clinton cant beat him when in the main the establishment has been on her side then she must be really hated in the states

I see no hypocrisy in consistently expressing the view that Trump voters (and brexit voters for that matter) contain a significant number of racists, misogynists and idiots within their midst. Where's the hypocrisy? Of course my opinion matters more to me, why on earth wouldn't it?

I blame the public. I am a member of the public. I am an ordinary person. Donald and Nige might not think so, but I am a "decent" person. A hardworking person. I'm not an "elite", whatever the fuck that means now. "

I think he runs a very successful business. This can be put to good use when running the country .

As he's demonstrated the entire campaign with word-vomit that's come out of his mouth."

Businesses are run to make someone/s rich. Countries, although needing money to function, should be run for the good of the people.

Just remember that the US voted in ronnie reagan who was deemed a joke yet he was the man who suceeded in getting reductions in nukes by talking straight to the russians, we can all hope that trump can do the same by not being part of a corrupt leadership that only feathers their own nest and lets face it if clinton cant beat him when in the main the establishment has been on her side then she must be really hated in the states"

Plus I'd like to congratulate the American people rather than insult them as some have done on this thread.

"It's quite idiotic to generalise all Americans as stupid, this is what happens in democracy. People who don't know what they're voting for are given the right to vote, and it won't be world war 3. As much as I hated hearing Trump won, and he probably will ruin things, but let's not get over dramatic. Hopefully it won't be just him and his 'politics' running things

Not all Americans. Just the majority of their voters. But we already knew that after they elected Bush. Twice!

I'd love for people not to fall for it, but unfortunately they do, and they always will, and politicians (and Trump) know it. Personally I think that he shouldn't even be allowed to run in the first place. I'm just a regular average working citizen, but when people are offered two plates of crap, it really limits their choices

Why do people love to act oblivious to the obvious reasons as to why people voted for Trump/Brexit/Afd in Germany etc?

People feel threatened, their quality of living is declining and of course believe it or not there are still an abundance of people who hate other races, gays, other religions etc etc etc.

People bought into the "We are all one" bullshit which the past year or so has clearly shown you that is false.

The world feels like a far less kind place after Brexit and this US vote.

The tone has changed.

As a species there is a tendency to divide between us and them when competing for resources. Our better natures make that group larger, but under times of stress the "other" is often blamed for our problems. Thishas historically been a different race or religion. Communists, liberals and the out of touch elite have now been added to the list.

Eventually, after the blood letting it inevitably turns out that nothing improves. Isolationism or military expansion eventually generate the opposite result to that wanted.

I sold my shares and bought gold. I'd rather people were nicer though.

"The world feels like a far less kind place after Brexit and this US vote.

There rich have been dividing us all for years and now people have had enough of it. They are sick to death of these corrupt career politicians who don't give two shits about anyone but there pockets.

People calling others racist and other crap for not voting how they voted just shows how immature they are. People voted because they know that it would make a difference.

People are wanting MPs and others to wake up and realise they are elected to represent us not themselves and their own agenda.

People are coming together and the elite just ran scaremongering stories to get people to vote how they want. It backfired on Brexit and backfired in America.

I'm glad Trump's won. Now these elite people might wake up.

I understand the anger and frustration but what do you want to actually happen? For everyone to get better jobs, more money, better healthcare, more engaged communities?

How does Brexit or a Trump preidency help this happen?

Trump is a very wealthy business man who was born rich and has a record of declaring bankruptcy and not paying his partners and creditors. He is the corrupt elite."

What I and others wanted to happen has happened.

So now the ball is in the career politicians court they can either change their ways and do the job they are elected to do or carry on lining their own pockets not caring.

We've already got a few deluded ones here who won't wake up Sturgeon being one of them.

That was more hilarious than most stand up acts I've seen at 'Live at the Apollo'"

The reason for that is that most comedians at the Apollo are not funny

What does this even mean, though? How are the 'career politicians' not doing their jobs? What do they need to change?

Nearly all politicians line their own pockets. You think Trump won't? The guy is a typical tax avoiding, loophole grabbing capitalist.

They serve to serve themselves. They take the electorate for granted.

They don't do as the people ask and they lie far too much.

Trump bankrolled his own campaign and no doubt he might line his own pockets not that he needs to.

The fact is this is a massive shake up. How can someone who's not even a politician go and become the President of America despite all the press and others being dead against him.

Career politicians need to now fight to win the people back and they are gonna have to fight hard

Whilst I would have preferred Clinton in a lesser of 2 evils perspective I think its wrong to simply say that some Americans are stupid because they chose him..

it ignores why they did vote for him and the issues that for those people is their reality or their perception of the reality and why they ignored a lot of Trumps faults which are many..

pandering to people who are feeling left behind and for whom their employment has gone or been downsized, having someone to blame (illegal's, Mexicans and the elite)is something that other's in history have done to build a movement..

whatever the views of those who chose him they will expect him to deliver and that is the hard part given the debt they have..

echoes of Brexit and the same has to apply..

The idea that Donald Trump is going to take on "The Elite" is as mystifying as it is ridiculous.

He ran on a ticket that promised to slash taxes for the richest 1% and corporations.

His entire manifesto is targeted at corporate America, which is at odds with his bizarre anti-global mercantile trade restrictions. Getting rid of any climate change obligations or tax effects should help - get those filthy chimneys pumping y'all.

The re - industrialisation promises are little titbits to draw in the blue - collar rust belt constituencies but the only way they can be achieved is to scrap international agreement and put major tariffs on outside goods - and I mean major! Even then, there'll have to be a bonfire of worker's rights.

All this without even thinking about his regressive social policies which are a pander to the Christian right.

It's one whole fuck up

Not surprised - the inevitable result of the toxic mix of elitism, ignorance, capitalism and patriarchy, same as Brexit. It's not 'stupidity', it's poorly-educated and massively lied to masses desperately trying to protect their privilege over the Other. This is what happens when people are politically apathetic, the bad guys will always win because they control education and the media.

And the pollsters got it wrong because it was arrogant media 'liberals' interviewing 'social media' 'liberals', and telling each other how wonderfully PC they all were!

"The USA is now lead by a very successful business man . Things can only get better . "

That's so funny; it's sad; but a gem of self promotion;

Trump is in fact, a supremely unsuccessful business man;

His enterprises fail continuously; he has relied on his fathers money, and in reality, has lost more of his fsther's money, than he has made;

He has manipulated foaled businesses, by selling them off quickly, at a loss, to finance newer projects;

Nowadays, he sells mostly his name; the majority of the projects named "Trump xxxxx" are named because he has sold the right to use his name, to the real owners.

The majority of his " fortune" is imaginary; the real reason that he would not release his tax returns, as he did not want to expose that in reality, he is nowhere near as wealthy and successful as he says he is.

And people believe him!

The citizens of the US of A just held a lesson for their politicians. They called it : Democracy.

Democracy's are never easy, Communism and Right Wing Junta's are much simpler, but in a Democracy the VOTERS get to do one big thing . . when they vote they show the politicians who holds the real power.

London (till 19th May)

Most Americans are not stupid rather like most of those who voted for Brexit are not racist, it is the Liberal Elite and the likes who are out of touch with the majority and think that because people have voted contrary to their opinions they must be stupid, racist, sexist or some other reason not that they might have a valid reason.

Politics in recent years has changed it used to vote for us because we have listened to your concerns and will try to make changes to improve your lives and allay your fears, now it is vote for us because we know what is right for you. They are dictating to the populous rather that convincing them.

This is ironically turning into a lecture but for those that wonder how people could vote for Brexit or Trump they should perhaps watch the Ken Loach film 'I, Daniel Blake' which many are lauding and ask yourself this if that film is a true representation of life outside of London why, when asked to vote to remain or leave the EU would somebody in that situation choose to remain.

The same is true for Americans disregard the likes of New York, Washington and Los Angeles, the rest of America is not having quite such a rosy time of it. Clinton represented the establishment whilst Trump was a new voice saying things that a large number of Americans wanted to hear. Will he do many of the outrageous things he promised during the election I suspect not and in 4 years time Americans will decide if they like what he has done.

Trump was surprisingly the most GLBT friendly republican candidate so for right leaning GLBT types he was far more acceptable than Rubio Carson Kitchen or Jeb Bush. The Hispanic vote is a bit more complicated, established Cuban Americans lean naturally towards the Reps (a hangover from Castro) while the Puerto Ricans are solidly blue so it's difficult to take the Hispanic/Latino vote as a single block.
