But politicians don't give a shit about these jobs because they are not unionised or in an old industry. If it was ship building or steel, politicians would be going nuts.

That's it, shopping habits change, business changes along with it, ie, adapt or forced to go under.

You won't need money where we are going. The machines will create a post scarcity economy so the theory states.

"Never try and sell anything that you can get off the internet!"

But Maplin's was one of those genuinely useful places, where if you needed something urgently then they were there. You could pop down Maplins and get it. OK, you often would pay double the price of what you'd pay online elsewhere, but they were still a very useful place.

That's what happens when councils charge high parking fees and make certain areas car free zones, people stick up the middle finger and say go fuck your high street

Its called a car park and a pair of legs mate.

Urban types don't like it when we have to take a detour in the countryside cause some posh knobs want a designated area to shoot on.

My local (26 miles away) Toys R Us and Maplins are both on a retail park, that charges shoppers to park there.

I think that Tandy are still going in some form, although Carphone Warehouse may have something to do with them??

West London

The root problem is that the UK economy has been driven by consumer consumption, not production.

The retail spending has been based on credit at historically low rates. Retail expansion has also been fuelled by debt. Also a lot of companies have not been investing with this cheap credit. They've been buying back shares and hacking up their share price...to get cheaper credit...

At some point people get nervous and stop borrowing and spending. Then creditors start getting nervous and call in their debts.

The last time this happened was 2008.
