I was just introduced today to the work of a woman called Carlota Perez, a British-Venezuelan economist who thinks we are halfway through the 5th global technical revolution.
Well worth a watch for those interested in this kind of thing, as I think it gives a very interesting backdrop to the current political and social events going on globally right now.

Not totally convincing but definitely some interesting thoughts and correlations.
The problem is that just because previous tipping points have sent us in a positive direction there's no inevitability about it  |
