There is strength in unity. Why does UK want to be isolated? Because we are here? Immigrants? Only sensible posts, please.

An island mentality, relatively insulated from centuries of slaughter between warring neighbours on the continent.

Europe is enjoying its longest period of unbroken peace since the Romans packed their bags and went home.

Economic co-operation and integration has done more to take down the barriers between states and neuter those aggressive tendencies of beggar thy neighbour.

Not so in the UK, where English exceptionalism creates unrealistic expectations of greatness at the expense of our neighbours.

I think a lot of the attitudes and opinions expressed over the last couple of years are relics from the UK's period of empire and world dominance. The direction for the UK has been downwards, with its decreasing prominence and power - and some 'blame' for that has been leveraged against the EU. The world is in a constrant state of flux, as economies strengthen or weaken, in relation to others. Maybe there is an element of an island, with some distance from other nations, that affect things too. We've obviously been subject to immigrant influxes for thousands of years and the UK has benefited from this, as others have too.

Presently the world faces significant challenges, some of which are better fought against together - global warming, as a major example of this. There was a warning against 'experts' and the evidence that they may have presented, at the referendum - and some of the west is still in an anti-expert mindset. As we're animals with huge ability to learn, it's silly to ignore evidence, as it can prevent us from pursuing things that would likely harm us. I've forgotten now what the original thread starter was, so I'll post and review.

Don’t underestimate the “payback” for austerity.

Communities hollowed out by de-industrialisation in the1980s.

Low incomes, topped with state benefits.

Assaulted by Conservative austerity since 2010 and made to pay the price of the greedy bankers who wrecked the economy.

Brexit was an opportunity to poke the Establishment in the eye with a very sharp stick.

It was a huge misjudgement by the Conservatives, to think people on whom they had inflicted the pain of austerity would fall in behind their claim we’d be worse off if we left the EU.

Another factor is that less qualified people tended to be more enthusiastic about Brexit, because they had less confidence in their ability to compete with unskilled migrant labour than those with professional qualifications.

We are an island race.....and that includes those who are "new islanders".

I never believed that Brexit would stop immigration nor would that be desirable. It will mean that we can admit more Commonwealth and third country applicants because they qualify on ability or because they bring more to the table than simply restricting inward migration on the accident of being born in the EU. Ironically, while holding itself up as a paragon of cultural diversity, the EU has restricted the opportunities for peoples outside of the European Union.

Thank you, very wise answer. Should we not live as a Europe as a community? There is strength in unity. There is a real threat from Russia, maybe also from China. No one knows what they will come up with

Just because we want to leave does not mean we dont want to be friends we can still support each other without being ruled by an eu.

All the UK wants to do is create a level playing field . Only a few countries make a significant contribution to the EU findings. Others get far more back than they put in.

Europe will still be our friends. We are simply amending out trading terms .

You have fundamentally missed the point.

We are moving from being an integral part of an international superpower to being an external entity.

We are creating barriers between ourselves and our wealthy nearest neighbours.

We are taking ourselves out of a position of influence in one of the planet's most powerful entities to belie e that we will somehow be stronger on our own.

Do individuals or unions do better during negotiations on pay and working conditions?

Within the EU there is competition but a win for an EU state works out overall as a win for all.

This will no longer be the case.

The EU will now be a strategic competitor and they are far bigger and more powerful than us.

...and there is the accountant's logic.

This is not pure arithmetic.

We pay more in to help poorer nations wealthier. This creates a larger market for our products and makes us more than the initial sum invested.as we all become wealthier we become a more powerful organisation demanding greater consideration by the world's other major powers.

By leaving the EU we make our friends our competitors.

Most benefit fraud in the Uk is committed by British people.

"There is strength in unity. Why does UK want to be isolated? Because we are here? Immigrants? Only sensible posts, please. All the UK wants to do is create a level playing field . Only a few countries make a significant contribution to the EU findings. Others get far more back than they put in.

Europe will still be our friends. We are simply amending out trading terms .

You want to separate yourself from Europe

Yes, I believe that's the whole point of brexit. Correct.

You are hypocrites and ignorant people who do not care about the future. Do you really know what it means to leave Europe for the UK? Do you realize that we will be in isolation? How much will we lose trade contracts?

Well yeah, but alot of brexiteers would counter with "so what"? And they'd probably be happy if they stopped having to spend their national insurance on Romanian women's child benefit. Especially those who have never actually come to the uk...

So you want to ruin the country because of one xenophobic story in the Sun News paper. So many things we could say.

Most benefit fraud in the Uk is committed by British people.

Leaving the E.U. will cost us billions of times what we may have lost assuming this story is true.

These stories are designed to shift blame onto foreign people.

I can’t believe this bullshit still influences the way weak minded people think.

The EU will now be a strategic competitor and they are far bigger and more powerful than us."

The EU doesn't understand the meaning of the word 'competition'. The EU is the most uncompetitive and stagnant economic area in the world (other than Antarctica).

USA representatives described the EU's farming practices under the EU's common agricultural policy as being like something out of a museum just a couple of weeks ago.

"Thank you, very wise answer. Should we not live as a Europe as a community? There is strength in unity. There is a real threat from Russia, maybe also from China. No one knows what they will come up withJust because we want to leave does not mean we dont want to be friends we can still support each other without being ruled by an eu.

Friendship means friendship, friends are not abandoned. Earlier someone wrote that we can manage alone. I do not believe that.

It's like you've never heard of NATO?"

Exactly it is Nato that protects us from any potential threat from Russia or China, not the EU.

Of the G7, four are in the EU.

The EU has either the second or third highest GDP nominal and per capita in the world depending on the measure.

Why would I care what US trade representatives think? Why should anyone? They're hardly inbiased

The actual point, which you either missed or are trying to distract from, is that we will not be "friends" with the EU. We will be competitors although we will be much smaller and less powerful than they are.

Are you for real??

The US put ‘food’ on their shelves which is grown in a fucking lab.

Corn with genetics spliced from bacteria.

Cattle pumped full of steroids and antibiotics.

Glyphosate drenched over their crops.

These all cause serious, often terminal diseases.

It’s up to you what you put in your mouth but I warn you, you will regret it.

And before you say I’m just scared you’re going to be buying cheap American food like you did previously - consider, what sense does that make? I am not even in that business. What possible interest would I have what you eat. This is just advice from one person to another.

I’d say the problem is mainly due to poor education levels and the mainstream media.

The Tories run down our state education with underfunding after they’ve already set the bar pretty low in the first place.

Couple that ignorance - especially historical ignorance, with brainwashing from the MSM and you have a island full of bozz-eyed mouth frothers who’d punch their granny if Murdoch or Farage told them to.

There are also a lot of racists here and that makes the work of the media much easier.

"We are an island race.....and that includes those who are "new islanders".

I never believed that Brexit would stop immigration nor would that be desirable. It will mean that we can admit more Commonwealth and third country applicants because they qualify on ability or because they bring more to the table than simply restricting inward migration on the accident of being born in the EU. Ironically, while holding itself up as a paragon of cultural diversity, the EU has restricted the opportunities for peoples outside of the European Union."

Excuse me but 270,000 migrants from around the world, which includes the Commonwealth came last year, we control those migrants now!

We have consistently had higher non EU immigration than EU.

Pretending to want more "equality" is a specious argument.

Personally, I feel we have no choice but to leave as the basic setup is all wrong. I don't believe any country should be allowed membership unless it can pay its way. If they had been honest from the very beginning in what their aims were, it wouldn't have come to this. We wouldn't have become as involved as we now are. But that's not just the fault of the EU. I lay the blame mainly at the feet of all our own MPs for being too economical with the truth over the last 40 years or so.

"An island mentality, relatively insulated from centuries of slaughter between warring neighbours on the continent.

Europe is enjoying its longest period of unbroken peace since the Romans packed their bags and went home.

Economic co-operation and integration has done more to take down the barriers between states and neuter those aggressive tendencies of beggar thy neighbour.

Not so in the UK, where English exceptionalism creates unrealistic expectations of greatness at the expense of our neighbours."
