Chuka Umanna is just another desperate has been trying to hang on to the gravy train of politics! One minute he is a labour MP then he starts his own party and when that goes down the plug hole he joins the Liberal Democrats, that tells you a lot about the man!Where does he belong? Hardly the sort of man I would want to be represented by, give him another 12 months he will have been through all the other political parties and be in the Monster Raving Loony Party!

He is a guy who no longer wanted to be in the Labour party. Change UK didn't work out as he hoped so joined Lib Dems which tbh, he should have done in the first place. Doubt we will see him leave the Lib Dems any time soon.

The centre ground is there for the taking.

It's where elections are won and lost.

Farage is dragging the Tories further and further to the right.

Labour's policies may be popular but their leader is perceived through the media to be a cross between Stalin and Hitler.

Just as the world is moving from bipolar to multipolar, so too is British politics.

I can see the Brexit Party and the Liberal Democrats carving huge chunks out out of the traditional left/right vote-share in England.

Still no word on a by-election though.

This man is a total hypocrite.

When Douglass Carswell left the conservatives to join UKIP, he triggered a by-election.

When Zac Goldsmith left the Conservatives to go independent (over his objection to Heathrow expansion), he triggered a by-election.

Chuka though, while pushing for a 2nd EU referendum (because we didn't vote the way he wanted us to), claiming that we have a right to change our minds, still won't give his constituents that same right.

Probably because he knows that he'll lose

Jo Swinson is my elected MP however, she spends more time in London than up here in her own constituency.

This is a young lady who claims expenses for a shed in her parents garden, claims it’s her constitutional home.

She only won her affluent seat by a small majority as the local Tories, what’s left of them, didn’t want SNP to win so voted Lib-Dem.

Her local council was won by the Nationalists who then walked out.

We still don’t have an elected local council

So Ms Swinson and her cohorts can do one at the next elections

38,000 constituents of Streatham voted Labour, and won with a majority of 26,000.

They are now represented by a LibDem MP in the chamber.

Do you think it was the party or the man they voted for?

Will he still be the MP for Streatham after the next GE?

Is it right he continues?

I doubt any of his constituents know what party he is in these days as he seems to change parties more often than his underpants! You have completely avoided the points that were raised and in particular the one about people voting for the party or the man.

He got 68.5% of the vote which was up 15.5%. Did the Labour party get that kind of a swing at the last election? No, of course not.

He got 6% more in 2018 than the Labour MP got in 1997 when Labour won their landslide election.

No MP has ever had that seat with that % of the vote.

The man was clearly voted for and if a bi-election was held, given the Brexit situation, I am sure that Labour and Tories would be wiped out with Lib Dems and Brexit party both getting significantly more votes.

I don't particularly rate him but those are the rules.

Apparently 120,000 or so angry old people and some UKIP entryists get to choose the next Prime minister. What do you want to do? Prorogue Parliament?

Just pointing out obvious facts...Something that Brexiters aren't capable of comprehending.

The guy got voted in with a huge majority and it's clear that the people in his constituency (which I am not part of) like the guy (or at least did last year).

The EU referendum results in streatham was 79.46% remain. Do you honestly think that as a lib dem in a remain seat he would lose it?

He has previously worked as a solicitor in employment law. Do you honestly think that an MPs salary is something he couldn't at least match if he went outside of politics?

You seem to be missing the main fact that he no longer has any credibility, he leaves Labour and starts his own party which he says will change UK politics forever, unfortunately his ego was bigger than his ability!Did he slither off to join the Liberal Democrats or did they give his ego a boost by asking him to join (Did he let his new party colleagues know?), whichever way he has shown himself up for the snake he is!

Most humans I know have made a mistake at some point, realised it and then done something to correct it. Example, leaving a job thinking the grass was greener elsewhere, realising it wasn't and then finding a new job or even returning to their old job. This doesn't necessarily lose them credibility...

I get it, you are from Dudley. A strong brexit area. Is Ian Austin your MP by any chance?

I haven't really followed politics for a few years other than watching this brexit disaster unfold. The Labour party is a shambles and the Tories being led by the privileged right who couldn't care less about 90% of the population. I can honestly say I don't know much about the guy other than what he looks like. However, to leave a safe seat which could keep paying is salary for the rest of his political career and stand up for what he believes in takes some guts. Of course, a Brexiter wouldn't see it that way.

Indeed.

How often do you hear the same people in here slander Labour as unelectable, extreme, a threat to the country (insert your own hyperbole here).

You'd think they would understand when a moderate MP decides he can no longer tolerate being part of that movement.

As far as I'm aware, most of the Labour MPs who defected to CHUK were facing votes of no confidence, so the constituents can't be that pleased...

Also, Chukka could have tested the assertion that he would have kept his seat in Streatham whatever party he stood for by calling a bye election.

He didn't.

Even his ego isn't massive enough to suppose he'd have beaten Labour in Streatham.

"As far as I'm aware, most of the Labour MPs who defected to CHUK were facing votes of no confidence, so the constituents can't be that pleased...

Also, Chukka could have tested the assertion that he would have kept his seat in Streatham whatever party he stood for by calling a bye election.

He didn't.

Even his ego isn't massive enough to suppose he'd have beaten Labour in Streatham. "

My thoughts exactly, I doubt his biggest fan will think the same!

"Indeed.

How often do you hear the same people in here slander Labour as unelectable, extreme, a threat to the country (insert your own hyperbole here).

You'd think they would understand when a moderate MP decides he can no longer tolerate being part of that movement.

Oh no . . .he's a pariah, unelectable (insert your own hyperbole here)

Some people just gotta keep bitching. Only they know why.

"

Takes one to know one lol

The usual negative, sniping drivel from our resident Corbynistas I see. Maybe if you put as much effort into putting forward a positive, progressive, socialist message Labour might be higher in the polls.

Since you haven't actually put a contradicting argument, I can only assume that I'm right.

And why shouldn't we criticise Ummuna? He's made himself a laughing stock and the only person to blame is himself.

Just out of interest, is there any Labour policy or any current action of the party or that Corbyn that you can see is in any way not positive?

Yes.

I don't support the Labour party, and I'm not much of a fan of Corbyn.

This doesn't mean I don't see attempts to smear him.
