Loved school puddings,

Caramel shortcake

Sticky toffee pudding

Cake

Gingerbread

All with custard and then there was the weirdness of pink custard that they served now and again

But lets not forget mashed spuds served with an ice cream scoop, as well as the other mashed veggies they served

I worked in Education for 18 years. I've seen some absolutely atrocious meals being served. It all very much depends on the cook.

Only good memories of school dinners here, all the above mentioned deserts and the custard. All local ladies that cooked the dinners with love in my wee village school.

God , totally forgot about the pink custard.....( Maybe blanked it out deliberately).

You could always tell if it was going to be a choice of something slightly edible or another day of just desserts for lunch, just by the smell as you walked towards the canteen hall..

The mashed potatoes and gravy seem to stick out for me.

Can anyone else remember the tomato sauce used to taste very different too ?

I loved the caramel shortcake slices, with chocolate sprinkles. Only got that in primary school though, high school meals were decent but the puddings pretty crap. My high school had lush pizza slices, hot dogs, and tattie soup.

I enjoyed helping out at my kids school on a Friday as used to get fish and chips for my lunch

Loved the puddings mostly and recently bought a school sponge with white icing and sprinkles but going to bake one with my youngest this weekend and see if it’s as good

Even the smell of strawberry milk, as an adult, takes me back to the dinner hall. I always loved the macaroni cheese with chips. As for the puddings... yes!! Caramel shortcake and custard. The white icing cake, with hundreds and thousands. On a Friday, we would go to what we called The Venny, and would get chips and curry sauce, with a bottle of Curries Red Kola... magic! This was in the 90s for me xx

I think our school cook had an obsession with prunes, they seemed to be served with every pudding.

They were the devil's work but I've grown to like them. Over the years

I was usually a packed lunch but on the rare occasion I was school dinner I couldn't wait for the puddings!

Shame Jamie Oliver got to the government before I could enjoy the real junk food at secondary school haha

Sounds silly, but I always loved the over-cooked shrivelled up sausages that still managed to look a bit pink and undercooked in the middle.
