Glasgow.

Depends how mu h of a commute you want.

And how much you want to pay - beware flat rents are horrific.

Too many students, not enough accommodation.

Except Dennistoun. Dennistoun is awesome

And bookmarking this for other recommendations, since I'm hoping to move back to Glasgow (or nearby) next year x

Depends what you want from life. Dennistoun, Finnieston and possibly Strathbungo seem to be the most hipster choices at the moment. I used to live in Partick and it was good fun, easy commute to city centre, walking distance from Finnieston and plenty going on. Definitely used to be a bit cheaper. A few characters about, but generally nice people. Shawlands seems to be getting a bit of a face lift too these days.

Central Borders

Avoid Easterhouse, Springburn, Castlemilk, Possil and Govan (unless it's all changed since I moved out of the city, but doubt it has).

Thanks for all the replies , I'm in a unique position as work give me accommodation for 8weeks , I'll be working right by Glasgow central so a commute isn't to bad along as rail links are good .

But i have to be able to get to work in an emergency within 20min.

Sounds like house hunting will be fun

Eureka

Everywhere is quite expensive these days. I'd suggest Clydebank,Yoker & possibly Dumbarton. Very easy commute by train if you're working in central Glasgow. Also try Rutherglen & cambuslang, but these places are becoming more popular now & the prices are creaping up!

Over there

I think the cost of rent or buying is a Scotland wide issue these days - unless you want to settle on Unst.

Shawlands to the South and Milngavie in the North have both got a village vibe to them and all you need. West end is cool. Do not consider moving to Milton, Renton or Barrowfield!
