Is porn when the focus is the genitals / sex act. What is the statting point for porn then. I think someone has probably done a PhD on this. |

Look at all the renaissance artist (my favourite area) the birth of Venus by Botticelli and his other works. Some quite graphic but all beautiful because they honour the subjects they portray. Think that is where the line for porn & art is for me, if you can imagine/put yourself in the painting , film, photo and feel honoured, respected etc I'd call it art. Even some quite harrowing things still show the power behind the main focus & subject. Porn to me is when it becomes purely entertaining and superficial rather than thought provoking and beautiful. D x |

I once saw a black and white time lapse photo of a cock becoming erect. That was art I would say. A plain old cock pick is more porn. You may disagree of course.

The Rape of Sabine by Giambologna was in the time of it's unveiling considered by some to be pornographic, but is now considered to be a Renaissance masterpiece (and rightly so). I think the definition of art and pornography is very much determined by the prevailing moral attitude of the particular time in history. For me Michaelangelo, Botacelli, Bernini and so forth is art, Hustler, Readers Wives and Razzle are pornographic. If the subjects of the work are modelling or posing with the ultimate aim of achieving or inducing sexual gratification it is by definition pornography |
