They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, or the years condemn them.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning.
We will remember them. |

"We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields."
We must never forget.....

My great grandfather was 23. Left behind a wife who was 8 months pregnant. He was killed on 9 November and never saw his daughter. Incidentally, the 100th anniversary of his death will fall on Remembrance Sunday. |

Someone asked me for the whole poem...so here it is. In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, May 1915
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields......
