I grew up in a time when Barbados had the highest Hiv and Aids Rate in the Caribbean. It was scary and controversial as hell. The government has a massive battle on its hands between the barebackers and the far right religious fundamentalists. Neither wanted to listen to the government statistics about condom wearing. The barebackers didn't want to use condoms, and the religious fanati.....fundamentalists wanted everyone to abstain. Both unrealistic for the majority of the population. Well eventually, when both parents to all the children started dying is when they both relented and changed their opinion/belief/preference and the government started handing out free condoms widespread and the rate dropped. It's never a problem to most people unless they are directly affected. I was in secondary school when we met a couple dying of Aids in the 90s.
