Don't be shy to talk to people and get advice and recommendations.
Watch and listen and spend a lot of time considering if any of what is being said makes you re-evaluate what you thought you knew about yourself - if it does, go with it, thats the forum to explore and experiment and learn.
Don't have a drink before - it might calm your nerves but who wants to try new things with a dom under the influence? If you're sub then any decent dom/master will gently dissuade you unless you're sober/not smelling of alcohol.
If you're not sure what is acceptable ask. Make it clear you're new and that you're willing to learn. Be courteous and polite and civil even in the face of activities that may not be for you - we all have preferences that someone will find unpleasant.
