Yes, on the booklist . Neither of us have got round to reading it yet. Millet's book is very earthy, and a reminder of how commonplace swinging is in most French regions.

Catherine M is a very hot book.

More towards the BDSM than swinging, but in our opinion the best erotic novel written... 'The story of O' under the pseudonym Pauline Reage. Anne Desclos the author was a journalist and French academician and it is exceptionally well written.

Yeah, it's definitely up there.

I'd also vote for Delta of Venus by Anaïs Nin, though it's a collection of shorter pieces, not a novel. Some of it is downright disturbing, but other parts are beautifully written.

Agreed. For disturbing, 'The story of the eye' by Georges Bataille. Or, of course, 120 days of Sodom

Oh, 'The Story of the Eye' is really something else!
