I can't imagine it lasting given it's their entire economy. What's PDI?

PDI is playa del Ingles in Gran Canaria.

Actually only 35% of their economy is from tourism.

We booked to go there before all this hit the news. We've been twice now but this will be our last time. They don't want us? So be it.

That’s Gran Canaria. Not the Canary Islands as a whole. There’s more than 1 island.

Next Door

Isn't it more about the rental prices of accommodation? Locals doing Airbnb etc, and not much accommodation for local people.

The islands need tourists

They aren't against tourists it's about people buying holiday homes. As every Cornwalla classic example.
