Friendly socials aren't a misnomer; they are just that: friendly, convivial, fun, engaging and a wonderful way to meet people and expand your nexus of friends.
Most fab organised socials - assuming that's what you're asking - are group socials, often held in a pub, private room within a public place or gastropub etc.
These are 'non play' events/gatherings. People attend for the libations, dancing, flirts and chat. Go without any expectations or preconceived notions of sex. Talk to people just like any other social.
