I think growing up in the 80's and hitting puberty in the 90' meant I straddled the era of looking in the Littlewoods catalogue of the women's underwear where you could see a hint of bush.
We'd often find porn magazines with readers wives, again mainly hairy or trimmed. But as the 90's progressed it became more normal to shave or trim.
