I love ann summers but went into a sex shop and I love adult superstore in brum. But went into one today in town looking to get some herbals for a friend and it was dark and dingy and very seedy. What do you think. |

"Only ever go to ann summers, there is an adult shop in liverpool on moorfields, went there once and it was dark and horrible, never been back."

Marketing is the big difference, many consider going into Ann Summers and the likes ok, but not to go into a non branded shop selling the same kind of thing.
Sex, and women wanting to be more adventurous is far more accepted now.
I guess those seedy like sex shops play their part as many older guys wanting a wank mag or dvd wont feel so comfortable in Ann Summers with all those young ladies around.  |

We have the largest pulse and cocktails store in europe in Hull. We find it a very expensive place though.
We tend to browse the place and if anything takes our eye. Then its home and do an internet search, if we can't find it cheaper, back to the shop an buy it. |

There's 2 in swansea.
1 is of the old men in dirty macs variety, and earned itself something of a reputation when a woman who worked there was murdered while she was at work.
The other is rather good - light, airy, nicely set out, and staffed by young, fun attractive staff - its pretty expensive compared to the likes of lovehoney tho (presumably I'm allowed to mention them as they are a main site advertiser) |

There are many who like the seedy side. It makes the whole experience see more licit and underground a little like the indi music industry. I do sometimes they do like the big pub chains do with modern pubs made to look olde world. Maybe the seedy shop is an ambiance recreated in a retro style.
Alternatively its dirty old men selling wank mags for other dirty old men. It's food for thought. |

We had one in Wellingborough a few years ago that was very tasteful. From the outside it was less revealing than an Anne Summers, but once inside you went through costumes, into a dungeon area and through into the toys etc. No one from outside could see that far down the shop and it looked great'
Que the local vicar!!! He complained that it was on childrens route to school and it would corrupt them. So, they had to black out the windows and it became like any shop of its ilk. Seedy and dark! Where before the place always had couples and single fems in it with a spattering of swingle males, it became the "dirty old man" haunt.
It's gone now as it just couldn't make money, which is a good thing, given what it had become...
Best one we been in? Saints and Sinners in Blackpool. Great ladies in the shop, fantastic selection of adult goods and not at all seedy  |

Theres another good one in brighton a bit far to travel maybe we could have a link on here for good sex shops and review them lol. Like they do with the clubs . I volenteer to be a toy tester. |

Well, i kind of like both, ann summers etc...have brought a lot of stuff to the mainstream and made buying vibes etc more socially acceptable, but the seedy ones have their place too, i enjoy going into both  |

Been to Ann Summers... A little too vanilla for us TBH... too much emphasis on hen-night stuff.
We found a place in Essex that was far more hardcore.. the bloke behind the counter *looked* like a proper "dirty old man"...
He was actually a really nice relaxed fella, chatted to us about various playthings for ages and generally a bit of a cool dude!

hiya nothing wrong with sex shops,i used to go into them when i was working in the west end,nothing wrong with them at all,i've been in sex shops in germany also and know one bats an eyelid.brought a nice leather thong in a sex shop a while back.

We have an Ann Summers but it deosnt do the sort of things i like but we also have a Simply Pleasure which is a little bit more varied and also a bit more money for what your looking to buy, so back to the internet for my new clothes xxx Lois xxx |

A sex shop is a thing that I've not ventured into for many a year, but in all honesty given the choice of a glitzy, polished commercial chain store type shop, or a seedy little shop in the west end of a city, (Is Sven Adult Books still on the West Road in Newcastle ?) I'd much prefer the seedy shop ...
Why, I have no idea, but there again, I preferred Newcastle Quayside when it had cranes, warehouses and shipbuilding, but now that it's all been polished up and is filled with zillion dollar 'houses' it's kinda lost it's attraction for me.

i am a ann summers party organiser and often canvass for party bookings in the ann summers store. ann summers shops are not seedy and the staff are only there to help and assist not cause you embarrasment . i agree there are seedy sex shops around , ann summers is well known company , i also have been to pulse and cocktail , find both clean and staff very helpful |
