Got into a talk last night with a few of my mates and, for some random reason, we got onto talking about naturists and nudists, mainly arguing if there's a difference between the two.

I argued yes: naturists are people who see being naked as a way of life; nudists, on the other hand, see being naked as an activity to do in their social life.

Would anyone agree with this, or care to correct me?

I would use the word 'naturist' for both groups. I have not heard the word 'nudist' used before.

I would think both terms mean the same thing personally...preferring to be naked where appropriate.

I am one and do not really care what word people use. I know a few people who get really uptight about it though...

I would say that naturists use nudist beaches? I see the former as describing those who are nude as a lifestyle and the latter to describe a place?
