First off you must go to Phuket for the first week, then after that week you can travel freely around Thailand...just as long as you test negative.

But there are still a few hoops to jump through in getting there.

Purely on a personal note. For us, Thailand lost its unique sparkle quite a few years ago. Taking into account airfares, prices and most importantly the exchange rate, we sold up and moved back home. We have since enjoyed quite a few much nicer alternatives

Yes the exchange rate is shit but that's what you get for voting brexit and weakening the currency

I think the £ is weaker than all currencies post brexit so I fail to see the logic in your reasons

I'm here now the sun is shining the bars and gogos are open golf is open its as near to normality that you can get

Covid rates going up again here ( Bangkok) I'm afraid , potentially another close on the cards so make sure any bookings made are fully refundable.

You'll also need full med insurance that includes covid treatments.

Fingers crossed it'll be ok for you guys soon , we've been having a lot of fun. Xx

I think booking package holidays with a big company gives you security in these times

I wouldn't be booking just flights or any separate elements, right now because even my annual travel insurance advise against it. Most the UK based travel agents have really good covid coverage now

Of course the caveat is that 70% of the Phuket residents will have to be vaccinated first, before any tourists can enter.

The Phuket vaccination program has already fallen well below it's targets after only a few weeks, so it's going to be an uphill struggle to implement the "Sandbox" I fear.

For a country well known for its sex tourism, Thailand is a very conservative society.

Other than the well known sex centres where you get what you pay for there is not any libertine scene to speak of.

Furthermore although there are swinging couples dotted here and there the chances of meeting are slim unless you have your own transport.

Do you know of any medium-priced hotels near Sukhumvit low number sois, & preferably on odd-side, that have coffee shops or restaurants? I use the Dynasty Inn on Soi 4, but access past the NEP isn't ideal! It costs about B1,600 per night. The Honey (R.I.P.) on 19 was my Thai "home" since the year dot.

Yesterday, CCSA spokesman Taweesilp Visanuyothin said the CCSA meeting chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha had decided that the new tentative reopening date for night entertainment venues was set for January 16, but only for some areas, depending on the Covid-19 situation.

At about 10 pm last Wednesday night police arrested about 30 customers, Thais and foreigners, found drinking alcohol in a Pattaya pub.

So It looks like that whether pubs, bars, etc. will be open during your visit will depend on the sizes of the bribes demanded by the local police.

Note: The Crazy House go-go bar on Sukhumvit Soi 23 is in a different police district from Soi Cowboy, which runs between Sois 21 and 23. There are no tourist police at the Soi 23 end, and some of the girls in TCH used to dance naked. The Nana Entertainment Plaza on Soi 4 is in another different police district, which also has no tourist police presence.

Have a good trip.

There are no straightforward answers to your questions. It’s chaos out there.

Conflicting statements by sundry “authorities”, plans being reported as facts, officials who don’t know what they’re supposed to be doing, and, of course, the ever-present graft and corruption.

Dine-in services with the sale of alcoholic drinks are allowed at restaurants passed by the Safety & Health Administration until 9pm in Bangkok, Krabi, Phangnga and Phuket only.

The planned reopening date for night entertainment venues is January 16, but only for some areas, depending on the Covid-19 situation.

Check your nearest Thai embassy for the travel requirements.

Recent reports suggest that you may need:

Certification of the receipt of two Covid jabs.

At least $50,000 health insurance certificate.

Confirmation of payment for one night in either a Safety and Health Administration Plus (SHA+) certified hotel or an alternative quarantine (AQ) hotel, and payment for a RT-PCR test. You’ll have to stay in quarantine in the hotel room until a negative test result is obtained – at least six hours. Woe betide you if your aircraft seat is within two rows of an infected passenger!

At least seven days before departure, register on “tp.consuar.go.th” and up-load copies of docs. Then wait for vacc. cert. approval and your “Thailand Pass” qr code.

Within 72 hours of departure, get a Covid-19 RT-PCR negative test cert.

And away you go!

I definitely am.

There are cheaper and safer places to go for sun, sand and sea.

In Thailand, masks in public and indoor groups are still mandatory.

You go sunbathing with a mask on?

You don’t see the bottom half of her face until you get her to your room.

You have two couples back to your room, strip-off, and the police crash in and arrest the lot of you for not wearing masks!

Not to mention the quarantine car and hotel scams.

The latest scam:

The wearing of face masks is mandatory throughout Thailand in public and groups.

Only a fifth of 60 face mask brands available on the market passed Thai Industrial Standard quality tests in July, according to the Thailand Consumer Council.

You’ll just have to hope that you vaccination gives you effective protection.

It's not a scam it's to help stop the spread of the disease that's why Thailand has under 5k cases per day and the UK have over 40k

I popped into tesco before I flew out last week and less than 10% wearing a mask. I went big c on Saturday and everyone was wearing a mask. I feel a damned site safer here than I do in the UK.

Not sure why people post on a Thai link if they are not coming??

This isn’t a “Thai link”. It’s a forum topic about Thailand reopening, and all helpful comments are welcome.

We ARE coming. The big question is WHEN? To answer it we need information. Hence this thread.

Some examples:

What do we need to know about the Immigration proceedings?

Have prices for farangs gone up because of supply shortages, or down

because of low demand?

What is the swinging scene like now?

Have you found any night life other than restaurants?

How strictly is the mask-wearing law enforced? Do you wear a mask when

sunbathing?

Who d’you think would enjoy a visit most? Single men, couples, families,

business visitors, or returning residents. And why?

Help!

We’re on the outside looking in. What does it look like from the inside?

You’re walking the walk. Please talk the talk!

Have just spoken to my brother in Sukhumvit. He has been teaching in Thailand 20 years, married to a Thai. The place is dead. 80% of the bars and hotels are completely locked up. Immigration process pre-departure was a pain as the rules kept changing as he applied for the Thai Pass and his visa, even the embassy was unclear on the rules. But on arrival a doddle, whisked straight to the PCR centre then the hotel, result back by 1700 same day. Streets largely deserted, so now instead of Pattaya he is heading to Ubon Ratchthani where our old friends live. Masks enforced in public places, but so few people about. Prices low. 5 star hotels going for 30-40 quid a night.

There is no swinging scene in pattaya there never has been. Meetings get arranged on here.

Nobody wears a mask on the beach, more people are returning each week but it will at least 12 months before things back to pre covid. Restaurants can now sell alcohol I believe hooter is having a grand reopening today.

The word on the street is that bars will be allowed to open in the next phase and the final phase will be night clubs go gos

Many have predicted the demise if walking St, we'll this morning I cycled through it and it is a hive of activity they are obviously expecting the green light soon

As for travelling its all straight forward all info available on the Thai embassy website

According to the dictator, Prayut Chan-o-cha, all night entertainment will remain closed until at least 16th January. This, and the tourist immigration system, are obviously subject revision if Omicron is dangerous.

Spoke to my brother in Pattaya earlier today who had got the train down from Ubon Rachthani. He reckons the place is dead, the motorbike taxis have all packed up, there are some bars and restaurants open, but as a 20 year Thai resident he describes it as decimated. Very good hotel, a tenner a night. One opinion, of course.

"Thailand is unique there is nowhere else quite like it

Yes the exchange rate is shit but that's what you get for voting brexit and weakening the currency

I think the £ is weaker than all currencies post brexit so I fail to see the logic in your reasons

I'm here now the sun is shining the bars and gogos are open golf is open its as near to normality that you can get"

India is unique. Thailand is very similar to Vietnam and Cambodia

The Tourism and Sports Ministry promotion PLAN (my capitals) for 2022 will include collecting a 300-baht entry fee from foreign tourists from April. The charge would be included in air fares. The money collected would be used to develop tourist attractions and to provide accident or death insurance for all tourists. The maximum insurance benefit would be 1 million baht in the case of death and 500,000 baht for medical expenses.

Your certificate of vaccination is your NHS app proving you have had your jabs. You then need to book & pay for your 2 RT PCR tests prior to getting your Certificate of Entry via the Thailand Pass, you can now only apply through the Sandbox programme NOT the Test & Go. When applying through the Sandbox, you need to have proof that you have paid for at least 7 days in a SHA+ approved hotel and your flights.

If you have all your paperwork and documentation prior to going on the Thailand Pass it really is quite easy to navigate.

Good luck.

"As long as you have your documents on your PC in PNG format to upload it's quite straightforward "

I haven’t got a pc , and frankly we found it a nightmare , our first attempt was turned down, possibly something to do with the size of of one of the files we uploaded , couldn’t get through to any of the dozen 24 hours helplines despite trying night and day for hours at a time .

It’s been headaches after headaches, the cost of 4 PCRs , the 3 Thai ones (2 once in Thailand as well as the one before departing the U.K. and the 2 fit to fly pcr requested by the airline) , the designated hotels and designated transfers taxi once is Phuket, the extra Covid insurance have all spiralled the cost of the holidays .

I visit Thailand every year, I think I might be put off for life after this experience

I’ll add that I didn’t help myself by booking the return flights a month later (by mistake) and the cost of changing that was huge.

It’s all worth it once you’re there … ?! The jury is still out

It’s not in full flow by all means but having not been there you wouldn’t necessarily notice as it is quite busy. This said everything is meant to be shutting at 11pm. I gather that lock-ins do go on but I’m in bed by then

For single males: Covid has put out Thailand’s “red lights”. Face masks are still mandatory and the girls have gone home or found other jobs. There are cheaper and better places to go for sun, sand and sea!

I have to say Stride, you are the most negative person I have ever seen post in any of the forums. If you don't have anything positive to contribute, then why contribute at all? You are full of misinformation and inaccuracies.

Thankfully, I will be in Phuket in 2 weeks time having an amazing time, and you will still be contributing negative material to all and sundry. Enjoy that.

A virologist has issued a warning that new Covid infections in Thailand could reach 30,000-50,000 per day if no measures are taken. So yesterday, the Interior Ministry sent a copy a letter to all provincial governors ordering them to come up with plans to slow the spread of Covid-19 in their areas and strictly enforce the rules.

Chin up!

So a little update regarding Phuket.

I came back yesterday after 2 amazing weeks. The bars in Bangla road stay open till 2am, all other bars close at 11pm, which bar owners are not happy about. There is a nice amount of people, not too busy like normal but enough. It's bloody hot, hot, hot. The Morchana app is absolutely pointless, but I kept it all the same just in case. You do an LFT test on day 5 but you can't upload to Morchana, so again it's pointless as no one asks for it. Some people wear masks, majority don't, it's definitely not enforced.

All in all, another great time in a great Country, please don't let anyone from the forums dissuade you from going with misinformation and inaccurate reports.

The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration has confirmed that travellers arriving in Thailand will not require pre-travel Covid-19 tests from April 1.

Visitors arriving under Test & Go, Sandbox and quarantine programmes will be given an RT-PCR test on arrival. They will be required to perform an antigen self-test on day 5 after arrival and be monitored at their hotel.

Sandbox visitors must remain in their designated area for five days. Visitors in the quarantine scheme, including people caught entering the country unlawfully, will be kept in isolation for five days and have an RT-PCR test on the fourth or fifth day after arrival.

Visitors must still have health insurance cover for at least $20,000.

But Songkran has been largely cancelled again this year. Only traditional celebrations, like simple water-pouring ceremonies and merit making, are to be allowed. Tourism authorities across the nation have cancelled all Songkran-related events.

Light at the end of a long dark tunnel!
