Is it your first trip to Bulgaria ? It's a lovely place especially if you go inland the coast is just like Blackpool

There are quite a few nice beach areas out side of sunny beach, which I agree is very ‘touristy’

Heading up towards Varna you have Irakli beach which is popular with backpackers.

Then there’s Obzor town. That’s a bit more built up but excellent eating places and some great cocktail bars.

Further up there’s Karadere beach which always comes up trumps with naked bodies during the summer months! Bit of a trek to get to though, quite out of the way.

Then there’s Shkorpilovrsi beach which is very popular!

I’m over there in a few months staying in Obzor.
