I fancy seeing the salt mines. Are they worth seeing?

Worth seeing. Suggest an evening organised tour. I recall they were situated about 40 minutes bus drive from the Central Square.. Amazing experence including an underground church sculptured in the salt..

Why do you suggest an evening tour ? In the salt mines you can't tell if it is night or day outside.

True but depending on how long you are staying in the city there are so many daytimes things to see which can't be done in the evening which is why I did the saltmines in the early evening to pack in as much in as possible. Don't forget Auswitch takes the best part of a day. If you do an early evening tour of the mines you can get back to the centre in time for supper..

If you go on an organised bus/mini bus tour which you will probably be able to arrange at and pick you up at your hotel I think single F will feel safe. Once at the mines it is a busy and touristy place.

I seem to remember that there was a longer and shorter Auschwitz tour. I would recommend the longer one as it covers both camps which are a 15 minute drive apart...which were not expecting..
