'By the end of May'.....

Should of promised it in Latin, might of got away with it...

Not disputting it, but as with all thing virus it seems there is not rule book to follow, they seem to make decisions on what they feel is best at the time. Without an adequate test and trace system in place scientists today have rease a new model stating with the schools reopening a second wave in December is more than likely, and double that of the first. Mainly due to people moving around more and coupled with other rescritions eased it's the perfect storm.

So a world beating test and trace is paramount.

I can understand that these things are damn hard to get right but Johnson just throws out statements like 'world beating' without a second thought.

If they want us to trust them, they need to be honest. Nobody expects them to get everything right, but just throwing out statements like that just makes you wonder how much disdain they have for the general public.

Because he is a populist... He thinks if he makes bold claims the voters will go for that.

Borris models himself on Churchill..

But he seems to forget the British promptly fired his arse as soon as the world war 2 was over.

The life cycle of an mp/pm is only as long as their skills are relevant.

Bozo Boris does not have the temperament or skills for the counties current situation.

Give javid a go... Im not fan of him either but a javid/sunak team at least give the uk a chance with all the economic uncertainty

And javid also has calmer and more thought out approach

Government and IT never works.

It always costs 5 times more than quoted, takes 3 times longer to deliver than expected and won't work as promised, if at all.

The only way this will work is if someone has the balls to admit that we're not 'world leaders' at this and just buy a known working product.

It's actually worse than that, there are actually 85 systems in use at HMRC and 30 of those need updating or replacing.

Some are on platforms that are 30 years old, which is never good news as the people that implemented them would have retired - so lots of guesswork involved.

"think for yourself" sounds a bit like "common sense".

Which sounds like a disaster in a public health crisis where we need cohesion, collaboration, and compliance.

Central

There was a call for a cross-party team to fight this together early on and as things are now more complex, with higher stakes, it would take this away from being political/ideological, to some extent.

The apps have been produced, including open source, elsewhere, so we could implement 1,as a supporting tool. A huge group of virologists have been offering their expertise and resources to the government to help provide a backbone to our testing and tracing services. They should have their expertise leading any of the £outsourced work to companies that have no or limited experience in this area.

We're not an incapable country, we do have world leading expertise and should be using it appropriately.

A combined party steering group, fully transparent SAGE advice in real time, appropriate integration of our health, science and highly expert resources of personnel, labs etc, would put us on a stronger foundation to target resources and suppress outbreaks more quickly and effectively than we've managed.

Whilst some personal liberties could be restrained, I think that we have to focus expertise to achieve substantial reduction in infection levels, to retain the essential public buy-in to the drawn out battle that will be needed.

I think it's more the cult of brexit

Brexit means Brexit... Err ok

Brexit at all costs... Even deaths?

"I voted leave not half in half out"

There are post even in this thread about the uk standing on its on feet.

So why where is the uk stockpilin all sorts of supplies from Europe including medicine even prior to covid.

If Brexit had actually been planned out and was about honourign the public vote

Rather than seen as opportunity by mps as power grabs and lining their pockets like priti patel agreeing billions in trade packages with Israel behind the pms back.

We might just have been in a better position than most of the EU countries wwith supplies of ppe and medicines.

Instead we are now arguing over how my fish we can take out the sea during a pandemic.

Its not the uk that needs to leave the EU.

Its the fucktard MEPS from all countries and the full root and branch overhall how the EU works.

I don't think any EU citizen would argue that.

But the MEPS on all sides from all countries would

Where government IT generally falls apart is the insistance of using a developmemt methodology relying on a 'minimum viable product' and the external software developers delivering just that.

Poor project and contract management.

This is like saying - you go into barclays bank & you use it to deposit your cash via the in branch machines or over the counter..

But the bank of BoZo a new outfit bank over the road, says it is a bank but doesnt offer a service in branch to handle cash ? Or keep track of your bank balances .. but they can give you a estimate ? of what you might have in your account in 2 weeks ........

In these days of information saturation, politicians tend to believe that any publicity is good publicity.

If he had said 'Well, someday we hope to have a track and trace system ready and it will be helpful in fighting the pandemic in the UK' would anyone remember his words?

Those who doubt him are probably not the type who would vote for him anyway whereas his supporters are happy that the government is talking about a world beating system.

The problem with ‘world beating’ is sadly China’s adapted electronic identity card is what they are up against... they use a simple traffic light system that alerts a persons phone daily if they are isolated, need to be tested immediately or are free to work etc... it’s a compulsory item within society so it’s a near 100% uptake, it tracks users movements and it’s enforced by the police and military.

Our app can be as good as we like (which from all trials and reports it’s between mediocre and shit) but the very fact it relies on people to voluntarily use it means it’s doomed. You only have to look at lockdown breaches to see the mood of the public tbh.

What next? A vaccine that is the “best of the best of the best”?

News night yesterday, data in from the track and trace - it is not fit for purpose.

Thousands of handlers calling people that may have got covid and to isolate for the 14 days.

average of 2 calls per day per handler, but one tracked person receiving 6 calls from different handlers, asking the same tick box questions thus 40% drop out, thus the system in reality failing.

Privately contracted out to the tune of billions again wasting our public money.

Local councils are now taking it into their own hands i.e blackburn and using LOCAL NHS service infrastructure which was perfectly placed to wackamole the killer pandemic virus ......

County Councils are far better placed than Central Government to develop the software and processes for track and trace.

They know who their vulnerable population are, know where deprived areas are and are well versed in working with the various cultures in their catchment areas.

They are generally involved with NHS Trusts at ground level and there are already building blocks in place to share cloud based databases with other councils.

I’m convinced Boris has hired some yanks to run his marketing/pr, even going back to the election run in when they were faking their Twitter account to make it look like a fact check account, that was so Trump it was uncanny. Now Boris is proposing daily briefings from a press secretary removing himself from the firing line. The Tories are definitely in bed with Stateside PR.
