Above the law because the law and rules are clearly explained and in place prior to the event. Anyone who believes that the rules in place don’t apply to them would be classified as believing they are above the law.
If the rules that are in place dictate that you have to wear predominantly white (as in Wimbledon) you have to abide by them regardless of your personal viewpoint

If the law says you must do certain things before entering a country, you can do those things or not go.
If I'd have to wear Islamic headdress in Saudi Arabia, I wouldn't go if I didn't want to do that.
If he doesn't want to be vaccinated or have appropriate documentation, then it looks like he can't go to Australia.

It is looking like tennis Australia messed up big time here… it looks as if they sent out a fact sheet to tennis associations stating that a recent covid diagnosis may be good enough to get a medical exemption…… however Australias federal health authorities specifically sent tennis Australia letters 6 weeks ago starting that having a recent covid diagnosis alone would not be good enough to let people into the country |

Reports say Tennis Australia told unvaccinated players they may be able to obtain a temporary exemption if they had recovered from COVID in the past six months, according to a leaked letter.
Talk about covering your own ass
However, the federal government released a letter showing it wrote to Tennis Australia in November saying that a previous COVID infection was not necessarily grounds for exemption in Australia, as it is in some other countries.

I would have thought that it's ultimately up to the individual to make sure they're in compliance with immigration law.
A country is exercising its right to allow people in.
Anyone with half a neuron can probably work out that Tennis Australia is not a government body in charge of immigration. Let alone someone with the resources to get professional advice on such matters.
Australia is a sovereign nation and can set its own laws. Don't like it, don't come. |

He's got the wrong visa that's why he can't enter Australia. You can be granted a visa to enter a certain country but if you get to the immigration side and they find our you're on the wrong visa then you won't be allowed in it's that simple |

Fully respect his right to refuse to be jabbed (I did get mine for reference), but every choice we make in life comes with consequences. It does appear (like others) he wants to have his cake and eat it.
His choice - no jab
Australia's choice - not to let him in to play.
In the end he's made the choice for himself. He knew their take on it, but instead of just having the good grace not to go he's decided rules don't apply to him and has spat his dummy out. As for saying he's a "prisoner in his hotel" that's simply pathetic.
Get jabbed and play, or don't get jabbed and don't play. It shouldn't be anything more complicated. Personal choice is still there for all. It's no different to some club owners insisting on people being jabbed, while others only want a negative test - their choice should be respected too. |

He's not under arrest, he's under quarantine until its settled. He could choose to leave anytime. That doesn't qualify as being 'under arrest'. I don't know. I know that a lot of what I've seen has been the usual detached from reality nonsense. Australia has fallen trending on Twitter, for example.
Australia has had robust vaccine mandates for decades. That they would extend that to Covid and immigration policy (which has grown increasingly fascist for 20+ years, vaccines aside) is utterly unsurprising. The idea that this has any implications about Australian democracy is... unhinged. |
