I know he is an international freedom fighter to those at the moment

Can I ask a question?

By his own admission, PCR confirmed positive on the 16th…. At an event on the 17th where was socialising, at a photoshoot on the 18th

So since at that point he absolutely knew… and still went out and about with his normal life… is that behaviour that you also condone?

It does make me worry, and a bit nervous, of how many people who are his ardent supporters are also deliberately flouting health issues…

Are you all going out regardless knowingly of results?

Totally irresponsible for anyone to go out and potentially infect so many people he should be locked up.

I don’t know why more isn’t being said about this! It’s disgraceful behaviour, so why is he being allowed to say? It’s so wrong

I don’t think he is a “freedom fighter” but I do wholeheartedly agree with having choice around the Covid vaccines.

However, that timeline shows utter irresponsibility (not been following that closely so is there a link to the 16th etc). Do not remotely condone that behaviour in anyone, vaccinated or unvaccinated.

I agree with OP in the criticism but Oz has been loony over curbs on civil liberties. There is a balance to be struck and they have thrown the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to the principles of democractic freedom.

His PCR test from the 16th was positive but he did not receive the result until the 19th.

If he took the test because he had symptoms then I consider his actions irresponsible. If it was part of a scheduled programme of PCR tests then I have more sympathy towards him.

The media are quick to mislead us on the facts to help whip up a storm..

Actually… on the form he handed to the Melbourne court the form states he was notified on the 16th of the 2 PCR tests that he took 7 hrs apart were both positive…..

So…. Again the question is what the hell was he doing at events on the 17th and 18th

I was also going to ask, does anyone know when he was informed of the positive test as the news yesterday kept saying they don't know if he was aware at the time of these events. If it's on his form then it's appalling behaviour.

I assume that everyone I come into contact with, is infected. Same rules for STI's.

They may not know yet that they are positive but may still be contagious. They may deliberately be out and about because they don't care.

Nope, I do not condone that at all Fabio if those facts and his self-admission are true.

It's highly irresponsible, shows blatant disregard for the welfare of others, and potentially criminal if others have been infected and suffered harm because of his actions.

Seeing as our own Track and Trace have the ability to speak to folks who may have been in contact with a carrier, I fully expect the Australians to have something similar, so with a bit of sleuthing it should be too difficult to find who he came in to contact with. And more importantly, did they get infected from him ?

I would expect there would be a trail of clinical evidence that could be compared to look for wilful negligence.

Does anyone believe what ND is claiming? I’m maybe a cynic in that he has always kept his vaccination status private of course which he is entitled to. Then until you travel to another country that has a requirement of vaccination to enter their country. This was discussed about ND before Dec 16th about if he would be defending him AO! So does anyone think that it’s a bit of a coincidence of the timing for him to contract covid so as to get a medical exemption for being unvaccinated? I personally think that he is lying through his teeth!

Considering that people get infected no matter what vaccine and previous infections they have, at what point we are going to stop destroying our society and move on with our lives? It’s just a matter of time before they will say that the booster doesn’t work or another variant pops up. Seems like everyone on this planet is obsessed with a vaccine which doesn’t work as it should and completely ignore perfectly strong , immune and healthy people. As a matter of fact his positive PCR only shows that he had the virus in the system not that he was sick or infectious. People previously infected tend to kill the virus in the first few hours therefore no symptoms and no chance of infecting someone. It’s exactly what our government is doing now, no more PCR for people with no symptoms.

I would imagine that he has been tested, don’t you?

Does he pose a health risk? He loses a marginally higher risk than he would if he had been vaccinated, as the vaccine helps reduce the level of onward infections.

I do know that I would not get into Australia if I had not been vaccinated.

That is interesting now you say it. I am not supporting him as I think right now caution is the word but on this specific PCR thing...

I have read that PCRs will give a positive result for Covid even if the virus is no longer active. ie there is “dead” virus particles in your system.

"Considering that people get infected no matter what vaccine and previous infections they have, at what point we are going to stop destroying our society and move on with our lives? It’s just a matter of time before they will say that the booster doesn’t work or another variant pops up. Seems like everyone on this planet is obsessed with a vaccine which doesn’t work as it should and completely ignore perfectly strong , immune and healthy people. As a matter of fact his positive PCR only shows that he had the virus in the system not that he was sick or infectious. People previously infected tend to kill the virus in the first few hours therefore no symptoms and no chance of infecting someone. It’s exactly what our government is doing now, no more PCR for people with no symptoms.

That is interesting now you say it. I am not supporting him as I think right now caution is the word but on this specific PCR thing...

I have read that PCRs will give a positive result for Covid even if the virus is no longer active. ie there is “dead” virus particles in your system.

Is that right? Can any of our Fab Experts in Covid (FECers) help?"

Lets assume for a moment his PCR was a false positive.

Would he get into Australia ?

My question wasn’t about this tennis player. It was about PCR tests generally.

Apart from Mrs Djokovic, what does a ‘nasty piece of work’ look like? The judgemental nature of these forums never cease to amaze me.

Oh and by the way - there isn’t nor could there be such a thing as attempted manslaughter in law

Could I Be Charged With a Crime for Spreading the Coronavirus?

Individuals who intentionally or recklessly attempt to spread the virus, threaten to expose others to the virus, or violate emergency orders could face criminal charges.

Why would I weep? I’m not disputing that criminal charges couldn’t be applied (although how they would be proven beyond reasonable doubt is beyond me). You said it’s attempted manslaughter - which in itself is an oxymoron. There is no such charge, nor could there be

Exactly. If a death is caused deliberately/ intentionally, it isn’t manslaughter, it’s murder.

Apparently he tested twice so I guess it wasn’t false positive. Secondly, if you want to follow the science, Djokovic should’ve produce a valid test showing his antibodies level not a useless PCR or Vaccine certificate which don’t prove anything. A couple of good quality LFT are quite accurate and sufficient for showing if he is infectious or not.

I didn’t realise we couldn’t have branching topics within a thread that may be stimulated by the OP but evolve away from the core topic. Does it say that on the forum rules? If so then we best close pretty much every single thread in the Virus section!

It’s ok though. I have found the info and I was right, I had read it.

PCR tests are so sensitive that they can detect old infections by picking up fragments of dead viral cells. In addition the amplication cycle rate being used is sometimes far too high creating even more false positives.

Those two points are worrying as it brings into question the accuracy of infection/cases data which could be lower than reported. Actually not worrying, actually that would be good news!

I might be being slightly sarcastic

I predict that once this is all over and Djokovic plays or gets kicked out, Australia's brutal treatment of refugees will be forgotten by these advocates, because it's not about "freedom" at all, it's about disregarding or dismantling public health.

The media are quick to mislead us on the facts to help whip up a storm..

Actually… on the form he handed to the Melbourne court the form states he was notified on the 16th of the 2 PCR tests that he took 7 hrs apart were both positive…..

So…. Again the question is what the hell was he doing at events on the 17th and 18th"

He has more chance of a piano falling on his head than dying from covid ! Healthy people, and I mean really he as healthy (not the media definition of healthy which is still 2 stone overweight) die from covid at the same rate marathon runners drop dead from freak heart attacks. I don't see a problem with him using his own resources to blow a hole in Tyranny. One rule for them and a completely different set for us is where the Aussies are also. He has oppened up the debate. Why can a perfectly healthy uninfected unjabbed person be refused entry to a country but an infected Jabbed person be permissable.

An infected person is not "Permissible" at all. Everyone is expected to take a PCR test 2/3 before flying, and a positive test would prevent them from traveling.

"Could be that he's now lied on his travel documentation supplied to Australia.

So if it is true he travelled to Spain on the 2nd January and he declared he did not travel to any other country within 14 days to Australia… that the easy out to remove him… I mean, could the authorities ask for his passport and would he not have a stamp in his passport as proof? ….

Isn’t that too easy?

He can't be held responsible because according to him, his agent completed his immigration paper.

His agent wouldn't have known he travelled to Melbourne from Spain via Dubai Jan 4th and he would never have known he was in Belgrade December 26th... "

I'm fairly sure that a person has a legal responsibility to ensure that "their own" travel documents are accurate. Ignorance doesn't excuse you from the law.

I have heard different versions of the story and only trust the media to run with the most condemning one. "

He confirmed it this morning. He said when he went out on the 17th he didn't know he was positive and only found out later that day and when he did the interview the following day he knew he w as positive. That's his own admission .

Blaming his “agent” for lying on the form. That’s pretty pathetic, he is the one competing snd he is the one who signed the form.

Absolutely. It is a legal declaration, and you check all details before signing.

Nothing seems to be his responsibility ... protecting himself from covid, isolating once he’s got it, or telling the truth in a legal document.

Apparently you can lie on visa forms if you say it was a human mistake. You can also leave isolation if you have covid so that you don't let people down. What a guy.

I can see that, in the beginning, the sterilising immunity thing was over egged. But that was over a year ago and - you'd think anyone truly interested in understanding how this works would have got the message by now. That all vaccines are developed to reduce severe disease or death, and these vaccines do that very well (and exceptionally well against the ancestral variant of Covid). That all vaccines (except maybe HPV) act in this way.

It just shows that it isn't about facts, it's about rhetoric. If they shout their lies loud enough, they'll "win".

Same as Djokovic being about freedom and looking at the plight of Australian refugees. It's just about not wanting to respect public health laws. It isn't about freedom at all.

Because from the time someone catches the virus it takes few days until they become contagious, that’s if their immune system is not that good. If the person has a very strong immune system or has been exposed to the virus in the past and has plenty antibodies, basically immune to covid, which in Djokovic case is very likely, then the body will kill the virus in a matter of hours. Even if they have mild symptoms like sore throat or slight cough they will be gone very quickly. Basically the body kills the virus before getting the chance of becoming contagious. However they will still test positive on a PCR but very unlikely on a LFT test. I guess this is the reason our government decided to stop the PCR without having symptoms.

In my opinion he thinks just because he’s ranked number 1 that he’s entitled to attend. I had negative LFTs then a positive PCR a day later. I had symptoms even with negative LFTs. I find his behaviour reckless. His demands for better food just shows his arrogance.

"

My answer would’ve been more straightforward if the governments would’ve followed the science. They chose instead to follow some botched science. So, there is a difference between catching the virus and actually becoming ill from the virus. You can be in an environment where there’s covid, flue, cold, hepatitis etc. If you have immunity to those things it doesn’t mean that you don’t catch them, you do , however your immune system will take care of them before they will develop any further. You do test positive on PCR but the viral load is not high enough for you to become contagious or is just simply dead. From my experience, people who acquired natural immunity had plenty antibodies more than a year after they tested positive.

Now, I am not Djokovic mother to know exactly what he was doing, actually I don’t even like him as a person, but if I want to test positive it’s enough to ask a positive friend to send a test with my name on it and it’s all done. What I want to point out is that a PCR on its own is pretty useless, millions of people positive however few are actually ill.

In Djokovic case a positive PCR shows that he was either ill and dealt with it or, more probably, considering that he didn’t have symptoms, his immune system killed the virus straight away. If you can explain at what point this guy became a danger to the Aussies and what he could’ve done to not be I am ready to listen.

Actually he tested positive, we don’t know if he had covid, two completely different things. Considering that Djokovic had covid in 2020 is very possible that he didn’t have covid in December. Follow the science!

So in that case he had absolutely no exemption for entering Australia based on having Covid in December

If you can explain at what point this guy became a danger to the Aussies and what he could’ve done to not be I am ready to listen."

Do you really think his body would havr instanly killed of the virus with nothing left instanly ?

I'm fairly sure that a person has a legal responsibility to ensure that "their own" travel documents are accurate. Ignorance doesn't excuse you from the law.

What do you mean nothing left? It’s obvious that something is left otherwise the PCR wouldn’t have been positive. Yes I do believe that the immune system kills the virus, perhaps in few hours not instantly, but that’s how immunity works, being natural or acquired through vaccination. Don’t imagine that a vaccine creates an impenetrable shield around you.

Some people are throwing words like “stupid “ and “ reckless” without any backup. You are obviously assuming that he was contagious and he didn’t give a dime about anyone. That could be true however considering that nobody else in his entourage got covid I can only assume that he knew he wasn’t contagious. Don’t forget the guy is loaded and is a king in his country. For you and me may be difficult to find out or to prove that we are not contagious but not for him. I don’t think he would jeopardise the whole tournament for the sake of giving some autographs in Spain. You may call him arrogant, selfish, stubborn but I don’t think he was stupid or reckless. I guess that you are falsely associate a positive test with automatically being contagious which is not always the case. I work in a fairly young collective and I know at least five of us who tested positive on PCR, no symptoms, no one else in their families positive either. We were skeptic in the beginning, blaming false positive tests but after the antibodies tests we figured out that they had covid just weren’t contagious. Now, the Aussies can kick him out for not following their rules but that doesn’t make him wrong or a bad person.

There are tests that can show the viral load. Also, if someone is testing negative on an LFT they are more likely not contagious.

"Are there tests you can get to see if you are contagious?"

I think studies have been done, but I've only seen things like "31% of people are still infectious at 5 days" sort of thing, not a test that will indicate contagion.

You do realise that this guy has an entire army of staff around him, coaches, PR, doctors, therapists , his own family and who knows how many more. If those people are falling sick or just testing positive then he is in trouble. It’s in his best interest to keep those people safe no matter how inconsiderate he might be. To assume that this guy and his team are a bunch of morons who don’t know what they are doing is very naive.

So... do you have any evidence that there's a test to tell him how contagious he is, or are you just guessing?

Could also be he thinks it's just a sniffle and everyone getting it is good for us. And that includes his staff.

In the absence of any evidence of a test that exists, Occam's razor suggests inconsiderate jerk. Particularly if you consider his known conduct before, the monumental toddler tantrums he used to have on the tennis court.

I am sorry… you are clutching at straws…here is what we do know, and I’ll use his own admissions:

December 16… took 2 different pcr tests 7 hrs apart

December 17… was notified late that evening he was covid positive

December 18… went on a photoshoot and did an newspaper interview with french sports paper l’equipe at his tennis centre massless!

So he knew on the 17th… and carried on regardless on the 18th!!!… again by his own admission

That is my book is both stupid… and reckless! Stop trying to defend the indefensible

Is this a court case? I guess when we’re all for adhering to recommendations restricting life. Then it makes it more limited in the aspects of variation for people to get a life. I’m of to shop to get mine now!

There's enough customs programs on telly, where border patrol guards/customs officers, pack people back on the plane for non compliance of the rules.

This arrogant tennis player is playing fast and loose.

Kick him out.

Getting Corona once IS NO GUARANTEE of getting it again, ever!

It’s a pity that two years into this “pandemic “ some people still don’t have a clue what this virus actually is or how it works.

"I am not an expert in the field but I guess if you have access to a proper lab they will be able to analyse all this things. This may not be for everyone but Djokovic is not a random guy in his country.

So you guess he knew he wasn't contagious? Maybe he's just an inconsiderate jerk

You do realise that this guy has an entire army of staff around him, coaches, PR, doctors, therapists , his own family and who knows how many more. If those people are falling sick or just testing positive then he is in trouble. It’s in his best interest to keep those people safe no matter how inconsiderate he might be. To assume that this guy and his team are a bunch of morons who don’t know what they are doing is very naive."

Such a shame that with all that money and army of advisors/assistants no one advised him not to go out when he knew he was positive and no one could fill out his forms correctly.

I am sorry… you are clutching at straws…here is what we do know, and I’ll use his own admissions:

December 16… took 2 different pcr tests 7 hrs apart

December 17… was notified late that evening he was covid positive

I am using his own admission when he made his grovelling apology!!! Jeez!!!

So asking a question based on your statement about adherence to recommendations restricting life… if you find out you test positive, are you not self isolating? I think that is now a fair question to ask!

And such a shame under Australian law, you're supposed to fill out your forms yourself, and even if you didn't, it's still your fault.

How big should a tennis racket need to be to serve him back home over the seaS and continents.

The national anthem talks about sharing boundless plains with those who come across the seas, but it's an old tune, I can dig the update

"Now, the Aussies can kick him out for not following their rules but that doesn’t make him wrong or a bad person.

In Australia it is a criminal offence to make a false statement on an immigration or customs form. And, gee, do they take it seriously. I think that falls into my definition of wrong. "

Absolutely. It is a legal declaration, and the person who signs it is fully responsible for its accuracy.

Anyway, another day, another twist, the shambles continues.

It will be interesting to see if his ego will allow him to leave without a fuss or force another appeal.

As a side note, I hope that Novak, Rafa, Roger never win another major and all get to retire on 20 each.

We have been lucky to see three fantastic tennis players over so many years.

I agree, I still think Federer is the GOAT but there is nothing between the 3 of them

My guess would be that he will appeal. Not good at reading the room.
