What is your resting heart rate?
Jump to: Newest in thread
…just tested mine for the first time in ages, 56 bpm. Very happy with that.
I do cardio at least 3 times a week though because my dad died in his mid 40s of a heart attack after not exactly living healthily, so if you don’t learn from that…
‘A normal resting heart rate for adults ranges from 60 to 100 beats per minute. Generally, a lower heart rate at rest implies more efficient heart function and better cardiovascular fitness. For example, a well-trained athlete might have a normal resting heart rate closer to 40 beats per minute’.

A low resting heart rate can also be a cause of underlying health issues with the heart . |

I have an erratic heart rate naturally but my blood pressure meds keep it low most of the time... occasionally it will shoot up right over 100+ even if sitting down/resting. |

I'm 57.
60 to 100 is normal. Anything above that should be checked out by GP.
Atrial Fibrillation could be a factor. |

And it can be hard to diagnose as your heart needs to be in that abnormal rhythm for an ECG to record it. Mine is paroxysmal and it took a couple of years to get diagnosed |

It varies between 45 and 50. The result of going to the gym and running 5 days a week. So, on the plus side, my heart will keep going until I'm 120. Sadly, my knees and hips will be fucked before I'm much older!

Well done you.
Mine fluctuates between 63-71. But I have neurodivergent stress, mental health medication and perimenopausal fluctuating hormones messing with mine.
My uncles having strokes and heart attacks in 40s and 50s and dying before retirement was my wakeup call.
My mental health takes a nose dive if I don't do some activity.
I have a personal trainer twice a month and I cycle despite hip pain, I do 10k steps, sometimes around Richmond Park and I go to the local leisure centre for weights and swim.
I also have to make sure I relax because too much exercise is overstimulating and it messes with my sensory processing, and then I get anxiety-like symptoms...which increases my heart rate and gives me insomnia.
Sobering because I'm mid-40s now. |

You are fine.
for some people it is low due to high activity levels.
for some people it's low to low stress.
for some people it's low due to a health condition or genetics.
It's just one health factor/ health marker.
I know people who are physically very fit and then cancer-wise, hormonally or psychologically or neurologically, things go wrong. |

I once had an 'incident' at work.
Tight chest, light-headedness, tingling fingers.
Ambulance called, tested on the machine & told I was having a heart attack.
Blue light run to Manchester Royal, rushed into the cardiac unit.
Tested again, ultrasound etc to be told that not only was I not having a heart attack I'd never had one.
Then taken to another hospital for a full set of tests.
4hrs later & I was told "there's absolutely nothing wrong with you, but you do have a low resting HR of 44bpm - do you exercise?"
I said, "yes, I cycle a fair bit"
She swore & told me to eff off!
Apparently my low HR for my age fooled the diagnostic machine. |

Sexual athletes.
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't think that some people have an unhealthy relationship with exercise and/or sex and/or body image.
I'm constantly trying to keep mine ( exercise and sex) balanced and grounded. I don't have much of a choice any more because overdoing it or underdoing it makes me unwell physically or psychologically.
I have less body image/body performance issues.
Even though I'm BMI obese, the GP is hardly chasing me with Ozempic and diet shakes because I don't have any obesity-related conditions. If anything, they are more concerned about my mental health. Lol!
One time I ended up in crisis at home, just mentally winding myself up with no exercise and the ambulance crew came out checked my heart rate while I was sitting down and became alarmed! I just shrugged my shoulders and said my heart does that when I'm upset and distressed. They said "well we are not leaving until it goes back down." It went down in an hour. All fun and games and relative. |

Ditto. It used to be rock solid at 63 but I’m a bit fucked just now and it’s mid 80s. |

56 average this year according to my Apple Watch.
I train daily (indoor rowing). It’s noticeable how quickly it goes up if I stop training for any reason. |

"A low resting heart rate can also be a cause of underlying health issues with the heart . "
Shhhhhh.
They don't want to know that... |

My hubby had to go for tests because his resting is around 35-40… and drops to around 20 when he’s asleep |

54 BPM when checked last week.
Rises to about 62 after cycling 100km (which I haven't done in a while owing to back injury, so I expect this to be higher now) |

The low 40… bradycaridic and have low blood pressure (they joke I must be super fucking ZEN with the world) … the root cause is unknown… but if I take room aromas ( aka pop pers) I faint |

"…just tested mine for the first time in ages, 56 bpm.
" mine has always been in the 40s 46 at the moment |

62, but then I am quite active too. |

Not a clue but it does feel high. My heart beat is often noticeable even when I'm not thinking about it. I may need to start being healthy |

My Garmin app suggests a monthly average resting of 57 though I don't trust the sensor on my watch compared to my strap.
Have recently found I have low blood pressure though which explains getting dizzy doing deadlift and craving for salt.. |

Mine is normally low 40s, it will drop to about 38 during sleep. I had to alter the alert threshold on my watch because if that.
It's been low like this all my life. |

I train 6 days a week - strength, cardio and conditioning - and am chuffed that now I'm back to my normal fitness routine, I've got back to mid 40s RHR after it increasing to high 60s when I was unable to exercise for a couple of years. |
Reply privately (closed, thread got too big) | |
Normally, Morning RHR is around 42ish or lower. Illness and stress will bump it up, but I do a lot of cardio. |

40-42... 4hours jogging 5 times a week
Healthy job |

To be clear, a well trained athlete having that rate is good.
A normal lazy person like me having it would be incredibly worrying. lol. |
