Does anyone else have experience taking this medication?

I’ve been put on it to regulate my insulin levels as I’m type 2 diabetic.

My experience as I enter 3rd week is not great. I have had almost constant stomach discomfort and diarrhoea. I also suffered blurred vision. And obnoxious burbs which are very antisocial

Does it quieten down?

I’m on 2.5 dose weekly

3rd week is usually the worst for the bad symptoms

Sulphur burps can be solved by a bottle of pepto bismol....its fantastic and really works

The diarrhea is the worst problem

Less food in means less food out

I missed a few mornings work as I wasnt able to leave the house

It gets better but I ended up injecting on a Friday so that the worst of the symptoms were gone by Monday morning

Yeah I inject Thursday for same reason but it’s happening all week and I’m just passing liquid to be honest

Feeling of nausea for first couple of days after injecting has been worse sympton for me. Only been actually been sick a couple of times in six months but have the feeling quite a lot. Burps also as you said. Was also prescribed for diabetes reasons, when reported side effects to doctors they pretty much said well its put up with it or next step is insulin

Try changing the injection site - thigh/arm can lessen the side effects. Belly while most effective for fastest absorption can cause more GI effects. There are several studies showing thigh being better for GI issues.

Cut out 100% sugar

Eat lean meat & fish only, no bacon, no fat on meats... even salmon I found too oily for mounjaro. Chicken breast, turkey, sliced ham all OK

Cut alcohol entirely at first then added back gradually (if you choose to, and can tolerate)

Avoid white bread and white rice/pasta for as little wholemeal bread as you can get away with and then wholemeal rice/pasta.

No oils, no butter, etc. Don't fry anything.

Other typucally well tolerated foods, boiled/poached eggs, porridge, tuna, olives, lettuces/slalad/spinach, apples, Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, 0% Greek yoghurt, seeds, nuts (although not great as high fat content means can lower effectiveness), baked beans, black beans,

I've haavw read online of people taking mounjaro and making no dietary changes then having a reaction... it's usually the combination of mounjaro and the not compatible foods rather than mounjaro outright.

Trust me, 1 year in, it's changed my life immeasurably for the better.

Best of luck!

If you are having those sorts of reactions on 2.5 I would possibly in the long run seeing if they will put you on something else

The tummy trouble issues may be down to what you are eating… keep a food diary to see what is and isn’t working… the biggest issues i have had on mounjaro is finding I have now had to cut out certain foods… fatty foods are out… less red meat and more white meat… less alcohol ( and even stuff that will make you more dehydrated)

I am sure you will find a balance… and it will get better

It's important to speak with your health professional, so that they know your response to it and can support you, in the way they decide is right, in consultation with your decision.

Symptoms do tend to diminishe over time, based on population studies. My symptoms were temporary and I adjusted my diet and could live with it.

A lot of what he has said is right… but what I will say is that there is a big difference between extreme and liveable.. you can’t keep up extreme and you don’t enjoy it… so make sure there is a balance where if you enjoy what you are eating, it’s much more likely you will stick to it..

So here is where we do agree, come off spicy and fatty to begin with! You have a steep learning curve as to what your body will and won’t tolerate on mounjaro

White meat instead of red .. so as he said, chicken, turkey are brilliant, ham is fine.. you’ll discover things that you can always go back to…

For example jacket potatoes are brilliant as you won’t feel as hungry to begin with, and they feel you up… don’t worry so much about the filling

Find your favourite cordial flavour and find a version of it in low/no sugar… if you ever feel hungry have some of that!

Beans on toast.. wholemeal..little low fat spread is fine, if you are miserable on anything you won’t keep it up!

Fish without the chips… salad are feee food

Get in some food replacement shakes in for example…If you don’t feel hungry and have not had much to eat that’s day, have one, low in calories, high in all the vitamins minerals and protein as well

I suppose I am a success story as well.. 8 months in .. lost a shed load.. find things my body will and won’t tolerate, but still having fun mixing and matching

Correlation to it let's just say I think if your going to do it keep the low dosage and do it over a longer period. Don't just chase the weight loss quickly. From what I'm seeing I'll never use it

It’s not always about losing weight though. I’m not overweight but MJ is the only thing that has worked on reducing my blood sugars for my diabetes

My side effects weren’t great but they eased over time. I’ve lost around 10lb ( which I really didn’t need to lose) in 18 months but I’ve also had chemo and radiotherapy in that time too.

However my blood sugars are the best they’ve been since 2018 which is the whole point of me being on it

I've had the eggy burps on a much older glp1. I don't get them at all on Ozempic which I'm on to help control glucose levels as well as lose weight. They are notorious for causing stomach issues which is why that's the number one reason people stop using them.

"Retatrutide is the future

I'm assuming that with the success of the current range of treatments, that even better ones will get developed and what we have now will come to be seen as old and basic.

The pill forms will also possibly be seen as more attractive to many people. Though I kinda like a weekly jab and forget it, apart from the effort of dedicated dieting.

My last part of my diet is the hardest to shift weight, as I've lost the easiest - maybe. But the massive successes, just shown in this thread, is inspirational

Ive been on Mounjaro for 2 years. Started on 2.5mg found i had common side effects i.e running to the toilet and eggy burps this stopped after the first month. Went up each month until I got to 15mg (I pay privately for mine)

Lost 9stone in the 2 years.

I found drinking plenty of water, eating enough protein/shakes helped massively for me. Its been a game changer for me. I was pre-diabetic and my HbA1c was 46 so I was on the cusp. Im now no longer pre-diabetic and my health has been the best its ever been. More energy, happier and more.

There are serious side effects and it must be used correctly otherwise people will suffer. I work in the NHS and I see people abuse it and then suffer the consequences. It's not a medication to be played around with. Once youve injected there isn't antidote. You have to ride it out as it has a long half life in your blood stream. I'm all more for GLP1s aslong you work alongside it and youre prepared to change your lifestyle and work at it. X

Aim for slow and steady weight loss, as rapid loss is less likely to be sustained and may cause more side effects too, that are less prevalent, with the slower, progressive approach.

Human nature often wants things almost imminently but this often has a hidden cost. Good luck with your diet

I've had a brilliant experience with it, have been on it a year. Have you adjusted your diet and what you eat since you started , as there's loads of foods that don't react well to mounjaro... I went clean the day I started and have had very minimal effects.

Was does clean food mean....what do you eat

Best of luck!

Following the diet outlined above and avoiding "trans fats" should go a long way in itself towards lowering blood sugar levels and also reducing weight.

The consumption of trans fats, which are found in most processed foods, alter the cells ability to properly regulate insulin levels and are a significant underlying cause of type 2 diabetes.

The WHO has officially recognised a number of countries for their efforts in banning trans to bring about improved heart health and reduce obesity which is associated with type 2 diabetes.

I was on Rybelsus but ive had to come off it as I was feeling sick all the time.

5 weeks later im still struggling to eat and am still feeling sick. Apparently it can take up to 8 weeks to completely stop affecting you

I’ve been on it for 2 years now. My a1c levels are spot on and have been for well over a year now. My advice for the sulphur burps is peppermint capsules (about £5 off Amazon) they work so well. Keep at it they are so worth it

I've lost 4 stone with no side effects as long as I ate properly.

The only time I had sulphur burps was when I ate crap food.
