Wegovy, anyone use this ?
Jump to: Newest in thread
I'm thinking of using Wegovy jabs to help with weight loss, i'm interested in peoples experiences with it.
I'm disabled so struggle exercising but have lost 3 stone via diet but it's now so hard to lose anymore weight.
I've asked my GP for it but in this county it's not prescribed for anyone other than people who are diabetic. She suggested Wegovy for me if i can fund it.
Obviously i've researched it but am interested in peoples experiences too. |

Not much to add on the Wegovy front, but an older friend with a few health issues tried a jab recently and had some pretty grim side effects, possibly as an interaction with her meds. I'd check with your GP (as I'm sure you already have) about interactions with any medication you're on.
I wish you luck, and well done on the weight lost already. I have Sarcoidosis and Hughes syndrome and exercise is a non starter for me at the moment,so I feel your pain, but thankfully I just have a bit of a dad bod for now. |

Obviously the usual depending what meds you may be on warning, but when I had it a while back the only real side effects were some burping ( which to be fair could be controlled away from polite company- it wasn’t incessant.) and some constipation.
Otherwise it seemed to work well as an appetite suppressor. Gave me a chance to adjust bad eating habits and from there start to gain more energy again. |

There have been a fair few posts on GLP1 meds, including a couple over the last 2 weeks on Mounjaro. A lot of people have used them.
Congratulations on your success . I take the latter and it's been great for me. I had minimal side effects, when starting. I know a woman who has lost almost 6 stone, most of it on the starter dose, apart from the final month. Her approach was to shop around each month for the cheapest provider.
Our body resists weight loss and will do much to resist it. As we lose weight, we also need fewer calories for metabolism, so we can't return to our former eating style and substance, once we've lost some. Our inbuilt protection will also further reduce what calories we need to exist too, as part of its trickery to stop us losing more, plus impose feelings of tiredness, to encourage us moving less, etc and thus stop weight loss . Metabolic adjustment is a real phenomena and it helps to know of it and to predict/adjust to it.
Good luck! |

Thank you. I think i'll shop around each month to get the cheapest deal/offer.
My GP said to get Wegovy as it's cheaper and works well, she's checked it against my other meds. I'm also hoping to stay at the lowest level and hope that it just boosts how much i've lost already, plus i don't have much money to spend on it at the moment. I have been quite ill for a couple of months and not lost weight during that time due to taking steriods however i think i'm on the mend now and am hoping to carry on losing weight soon. I need to dim my appetite because the steriods make me want to eat all the time |

"Mounjaro is far the best but so expensive,I used mounjaro lost almost 4 st but when proce doubled i swapped wegovey, 3 months on wegovy never lost a single lb so stopped"
I can't afford mounjara so i will try wegovy. I have lost 3 stone on diet alone so just want a boost really. If i don't lose any weight on it then i just go back to diet alone |

My GP said Wegovy is very good and is fine for me to take alongside my other meds, plus it's cheaper, it's the only one i can afford and only at the smallest dose, possibly go up one dose for a short time. So i don't have much choice
I'm also setting up to go to a gym once a week that is happy to look after someone with limited mobility and lots of pain. Plus i'm trying out some youtube chair exercises. Also eating well.
I'm hoping to start the wegovy next month when i've finished taking the medication that has made my body swell up with water.
I want to win at this |

Been on it 12 weeks now. Get it from bolt pharmacy. I have lost 16lb. But only 1 side effect
2 days after taking jab im on the toilet all day sometimes both ends. Always injected in tummy.but last week injected in arm and no toilet visit... I have also gone the other way for days and not able to go.
If you have disabilities and unable to get to a toilet quickly I wouldn't suggest any glp-1 medication as thats what they do to your body. But well done on the loss without it. K |

"I've been using it for 3 weeks now. Only side effects I've had is a bit of nausea. I'm currently on the lowest dose though, due to move up with my next order "
You dont have to move up if it is working for you and only having nausea is great let your body get used to this dose it can take 6 8 wks then if you feel yoy getting food noise then up it. This was the advice my supplier gave me which was great coz I know its not just money they after |

Yeah my supplier gave me the choice, I think I'm going to go to the 0.5 and stay there for a while. I'm getting a bit of food noise atm, that's the main reason for upping it |

I have been using Wegovy since October last year. I started wegovy because at the time Monjaro was starting to be difficult to get hold of. I have lost 30lb in that time. Not as much as I’d like to have lost in the time I’ve taken it. I’m not sure it’s as effective as Monjaro. I have had very few side effects. Had the burps and a lot of acid reflux. On the highest dose I did get very sensitive skin. Felt like I was sun burned when drying myself off with a towel. That seems to have eased now. I’ve decided to try the full dose a couple more months. But only jabbing every other week. (Partly to save money.) highest dose is £280 for the month! Feel free to message me for any other info. But having read other posts in this thread there some very knowledgeable people on here. Good luck. |

I await the next generation of these products that don't require injection with interest. I am ludicrously squeamish when it comes to needles, and unless it's a full on medical emergency not even the thought of a chiselled torso would motivate me to start injecting myself. |

You can get on the NHS depending on your BMI.
The highest dose though is only 2.4 and that takes up to 17 weeks to get to.
Privately you can get it quick & get a higher dose.
I have felt sick but that is it.
My eyes have got worse which can be to do with the injection or it could just be my eyes.
Hats off to you for losing weight on your own.

"Mrs has signed up to juniper, around £150 a month for wegovy, onside effects yet but on lowest dose at present "
I’m on wegovy. Started out £99 first month (I got veterans discount). But it goes up as the dose increases. I’m on the highest dose. It’s currently £280 for the month. Only get discount on first dose. |

My FB switched to Wegovy after using Ozempic, and found it to be very disappointing. With the Ozempic she lost 5 stone in 6 months, but it was getting expensive. She then swapped to the wegovy as a cheaper option, but found that she actually put weight on again with it.
She has now gone back on to the ozempic and even at the lowest dose again, she is losing weight again steadily.

I think it would be good if people could actually see the injection pen. I'm a little nervous when I see the standard medical syringes but these are nothing like a needle. I just feel the plastic pen container and not the injection. |

You can't get it on the NHS here unless you are diabetic and that's probably going to be stopped now aswell thanks to a certain political party. |

I tried semiglutamide years ago and didn't get on with it, i had terrible acid reflux all day everyday.
However I do usually suffer with reflux so the medication just made it worse.
I have a few friends on it and they have got on beautifully
Best thing would be to just try it and see how you get on x |

A friend of mine has been on this for a year and has had very minimal side effects, a bit gassy, nauseous on the day she takes it but lost the weight she wanted to loose and is genuinely so much happier, she has mobility issues that prevent a lot of exercise, her GP recommended it to her and she swears by it. |

"Never done a thing for me wygovey . I swapped to this one as the other doubled in price . Mounjaro was very good but when price doubled it killed it for me ."
I think the Trump agreement on international medical prices hit us badly.
There's variations on prices amongst suppliers though and a friend went over a year, losing almost 6 stones, by staying at the lowest dose and shopping around for offers each purchase, saving a lot of money |

"Wegovy is definitely a safer option than mounjaro. Know a few people who developed severe problems with gallstones and required surgery in one case due to complications."
Do you have quantitative data, supporting your claim, from published research? |

Most GLP1s carry risks. You just have to be well educated on them. Remember youll get a PIL (PATIENT INFORMATION LEAFLET) with your medicine stating side effects. Which not everyone will suffer. I used Mounjaro and lost 9 stone in 2 years and only had mild side effects at the beginning. |

"Did any if you also lose muscle mass or just fat?"
I think it's probably almost impossible not to lose some muscle, when you're in a sustained calorie deficit. . Certainly, maintaining something like weight training and keeping protein intake high, can help to alleviate it but the body will pull energy from where it wants to. If it does this, it also reduces the basal metabolic rate, so cuts what energy it will need, from that point onwards.
I've lost some of my muscle but also some fat |

I used Monjaro with the only side effect of losing 5 stone, I then went onto wegovy when the prices increased.
I lasted three months, did lose another stone but the nausea as a side effect was awful, so stopped using it and went back to Monjaro! |

I’ve lost 4 stone on wegovy same as yourself limited mobility so needed the help while building a sensible low impact exercise routine. On high dose now and still no side effects other than forgetting to eat plenty of fruit and veg as can end up only eating bit you really like. Hope it goes well for you.

GLP1s are amazing for quietening the food noise and reducing hunger. I'm diabetic so take Ozempic and have lost 25 kgs and keep it off but I have stalled somewhat on further weight loss. I also lost a lot of muscle. So if you can exercise then do. |

I had my second dose yesterday. No side effects at all.
I cant believe how it has just turned off the food noise. I don't want or need to snack and my portion size for meals has reduced because I dont feel hungry. I have also started to eat healthier too, it seemed pointless before as I couldn't fight the urge to snack on the wrong things. Only lost a couple of pounds up to now but it's only been a week so it's a start.
I also aim to try and increase my exercise too but not done that bit yet. |

8lbs off in 3 weeks so not bad. Not really snacking and not often feeling hungry. I'd set my calories at 1700 but not reaching that some days.
Only side effect so far is burping and a bit of acid reflux |
