I'm totally shocked by the fires that have happened in the last few days across south wales.

Is this a random act of a higher power,or inconsiderate individuals coincidentally being daft or an organised crime of vandalism for some undisclosed agenda.

Personally I think it's a group of people who have coordinated to create chaos...

Either way it's a shame that it's destroyed so much habitat.

Thoughts fabbers?

Same every year as soon as the weather warms & things dry out. Usually deliberately set, according to the fire service information X

I've never seen it happen in so many places at the same time and so extensively in terms of damage

I worked in the fire service until quite recently.

I’d say it’s a combination of a few things.

Kids messing about lighting fires, people heading out into the outdoors and lighting campfires or barbecues and the final one of landowners/gamekeepers doing controlled burns to regenerate the moorlands but getting caught out by changing conditions.

Some are pretty good and have more kit at their disposal to deal with their burning than we as the fire service did.

They’re rubbish things to deal with though as it’s just plain old brute force and graft to put them out🥵

I live right next to the mountain in crosskeys that caught fire yesterday . The entire thing has been scorched and was still smouldering this eve 24 hours later

I drive through there every day and both Tuesday and Wednesday evening the mountains through the valley were on fire. Lots of fire engines around Wednesday night. The smoke was thick!

Nuisances, the lot of them. One dry day and Treorchy’s on fire. I remember there being a particularly nasty one up the mountain a couple of years ago. Apparently, they caught the culprits—they were around 18 or 19 years of age and had driven up there to do it
