The entrance comes into view once I turn the corner. The doors opened but a while ago, and there are only a few people waiting to get in for now. As I approach the que is down to just 3 and I notice the big screen above the front desk displaying CCTV of us waiting our turn. I can see myself pretty clearly despite the funny camera angle. Short, freshly trimmed hair, and while the camera doesn't show the detail, I know where the greys started showing up. Thick bushy brows, few wrinkles in the corners of my eyes... maybe a little tiredness showing on my rugged face. Beard glistening from the oil I've put in shortly before going out, stretching down, covering the length of my neck despite me looking up. Might plat it later... Black shirt with a skeleton playing a sax on one side nicely fits over my broad shoulders.

Once the card reader makes a ping sound, I get to enter. The bar area is pretty quiet still, a few couples chatting in small groups, some seemingly standing just watching people around them. Past the bar I see the dance area, some sofas and a doorway on the left that may lead to the smoking area. As I approach the bar I spot a few discreet cameras dotted about... Old habits die hard.

What can I get you The barman asks. Can you mix me a c0ke and orange? Pint? he asks and I confirm. As I await my drink I take another glance around the variety of people gathered already. These places tend to bring in a varied mix of people and today is no different. Some dressed to the nines, others far more casual... All looking fabulous. Once my muddy water arrives, I walk across the dancefloor doing a little shimmy to the Missy Elliot song playing at a rather reasonable volume. I was right about the doorway leading to the smoking area. Its not exactly big, but that isn't necessary a bad thing. I've quit cigs quite a while back, but find the atmosphere in these spaces much more conductive to getting to know people without too much pressure. I get my vape out and approach a group of 3 who seem at ease and chatting lively. After an introduction I ask if I may join them for a while as I'm new to the area and the club itself. Eventually the conversation tips towards our reasons for coming to the club. Oh I'm not straight I reply, But hardly call myself bi... so tend to just use queer myself. Sort of 80% straight if I had to narrow it down. By this point my drink is empty, bladder is full, and throat turns my saliva to cherry milkshake from all the vaping. I excuse myself and go explore the club further...
