Lost my virginity on the banks of the Thames. Upstream from Chertsey - Silversands between Laleham and Staines.

Trip down memory lane next week as I’m cycling along the Thames from Reading to London.

If you go upstream, past Laleham and just before Penton Hook lock, there is Silver sands, a grassy meadow by a bend in the river, that’s where I lost my virginity. I cycled by there last summer, it hasn’t changed at all.

The Thames- very central to my upbringing. I’ve fished in it, fell in it, ( numerous times) swam in and across it. Jumped in it off Staines railway bridge. First felt a Fanny on the riverbank, then first ever shag by the bank at Silversands- different girl by the way. My first honeymoon was a cruiser from Chertsey to Marlow.

I fucking love that river!

Most of my early sexual experiences were on the banks of the Thames, from Penton Hook to the railway bridge at Staines.

Quite appropriate then that years later my honeymoon was taking a boat from Chertsey to Marlow, thanks to the guys at Bates boatyard.

Happy days!
