Corbyn, milliband and Brown the last 3 Labour leaders have all had the same result - they lost. Blair was the last Labour leader to gain the support and vote of the UK.

Corbyn increased Party membership and did far better than he was expected to have done in the election previous to the one last year. And this he did against an unrelenting and savage cross-media campaign to disparage and discredit him - a campaign the like of which we had not seen since the Michael Foot days in the early 80's. Blairs government 'hit the ground running'(as the saying went at the time) but within 18 months most of their laudable manifesto policies had suffered u-turns, and then, supposedly Socialist, they lied and manipulated our nation into an illegal war which cost the lives of 100,000s.I know who i would rather sit in a pub with. Milliband of course is Jewish - that fact rather makes a mockery of the claims that the Labour movement is anti-semitic really in my view - you know, when the party leader himself is Jewish! Another media stick Corbyn was beaten with.Corbyn made the mistake in being manouvered by a conference vote into agreeing to hold a second referendum (the vote, a show of hands, was very flawed indeed- watch it again yourselves). Had it not been for this perceived abandonment of respecting the 2016 referendum result by 'leave' Labour voters, the 'Red Wall' would never have fallen to the Tories. Corbyn was the best leader of the party since John Smith and was undermined by an absolute rabble of a parliamentary party.

Blair was extremely successful at the polls.

He was charismatic, popular and appealed to middle England.

He also got involved in an illegal war where thousands of people died.

He took the north and Scotland for granted and lost generations of voters which labour are paying for now.

And things change, just because something happened in 1979 doesn't mean it will happen again. By the late 80's and early 90's the Sun was kingmaker in UK politics, after Murdoch met and gave his approval to Blair, the Sun turned on John Major and backed Blair. The Tories tried William Hague, Ian Duncan Smith and Michael Howard but they all lacked credibility as PM material.

Did you know that the Conservatives made approaches to Blair in his first term to see if he would consider joining them. They thought he was a natural Tory and was playing for the wrong team.

I agree the right wing press gave him no chance but as a statesman he was shocking.

Scruffy Michael Foot like and calling to nationalise stuff just turned everyone off,

He spoke a lot of truth and sense but went too far with his left wing rhetoric.

Regarding the press Tony Blair sold out to Murdoch and with his backing won him the election

We are dumbing down year on year.

The Sun newspaper along with the mail are full of shit! but stupid people buy the crap they spout!

We have had 1 left wing gmnt in 80 years.

Apart from Blair's golden age the tories have been in power for the last 40 years.

They were in power throughout the 50'upto the mid 60s.

Then again in the early 70s.

You seem to be implying labour failure at the election is a recent phenomenon.

Your point?

More a quote than a point but if you prefer you could say one leader was worse than the other but they all had the same outcome - they lost.

We know that.

Still don't really see your point

Tm won an election and was possibly the most ineffectual pm of recent years.

Bj has won 1 and if I was a betting man I'd say he will be the most inept pm we have ever had.

As said before it was a statement of fact. Of course some Labour leaders are better than others but none since Blair have been good enough. Different scales of defeat is still is defeat.

Depends on your defeniton of good enough.

Electorally he was very successful.

Yet his reputation in labour circles isnt the best.

Mine would be winning a GE. He played 2 and lost 2. Milliband lost and so did Brown so none have been successful since Blair

Blair was extremely successful at the polls.

He was charismatic, popular and appealed to middle England.

He also got involved in an illegal war where thousands of people died.

He took the north and Scotland for granted and lost generations of voters which labour are paying for now.

Yep the war was his downfall for sure but since him every new leader has lost every GE. Which is why my original post said corbyn, Miliband and Brown have all one thing in common- they lost

We live in a conservative country.

The press are overwhelmingly right wing.

Anyone remotely left wing is utterly anhiliated.

Education needs sorting!!

"

Which of his policies were top left wing?

Increasing minimum wage?

The facts I mentioned are just that-facts. We have had Labour governments before so it's possible as Blair demonstrated. Since then it's just been defeat after defeat

They probably had a point tbf

He was their last leader that made it to PM and done it 3 times. Since then it's all downhill. Lots of elections and even more excuses"

It's not exercuses.

As exemplified above we live I a conservative country.

That's a fact.

"

Why do you think I'm implying that?. I'm just stating the facts.

In fact in 2017 corbyn actually got more votes than brown and Miliband.

He also got more than Blair in 2005 and increased the vote share more than any other leader since 1945.

"He also got more than Blair in 2005 and increased the vote share more than any other leader since 1945."

He also lost on both occasions including last year's worst result for ages. Blair won 3 times then Brown lost. Miliband lost and Corbyn lost twice. Regardless of how its dressed up loosening is loosening.

""Britain faces a simple and inescapable choice – stability and strong government with me, or chaos with Ed Miliband." David Cameron, May 2015

"

Yup

Cameron Backed by the Aussie

Media Mogul Murdoch , who was a big believer in the U.K leaving the EU ,

Also the Man responsible for

The Newspaper that hacked the phone of a murdered child , which led to her parents believe that she may still be alive .

His Rag of a paper was rightly shutdown, shame its daily rag didnt go to.

Murdochs Cameron/Tory backed campaign helped the British people to believe they were making the decisions for Brexit.

Remember When Murdoch backed Blair

His Newspaper The Sun showed the missile site on ots front page

WMD'S .

Well it looked like a tin roof over a well to me .

Murdoch is now in Amerakee & is a big friend of TRAMP 2020.

Cameron stability, nah he legged it

May Strong & stable nah

Weak & Wobbly .

Bor oops sorry i meant

Dominic well 3 years in Russia

What do you expect .

I'm honestly not sure what repeating "they lost 3 tomes'over and over again is going to achieve if I'm honest.

Have the tories done well over the years because they appeal to the negative aspects of human nature ; greed , selfishness, gluttony, amoral doctrine?

It is a possibility. From my own life experiences there was, i feel, a palpable change in the outlook and demeanour of folk after Thatcher came to the helm. Greed seem to come to the fore. I always remember my sister asking me if i was going to buy my allotment of shares in BT which was about to float on the stockmarket (1984?). She was going to buy hers, but I told her "No, I object to somebody selling something that belongs to us all to only those of us wealthy enough to buy a piece!". I could see her mind working, and almost immediately she said "could you buy your share for me then if i give you the money?". I told her to Foxtrot Oscar.

Thatcherism is probably the most destructive political ideology this country has ever seen.

She gleefully tore the country apart and her legacy and attitudes are still seen today.

I remember the yupies, and the character that used to say "loaaads a moneyyyyy" waving wads of cash about.

Selling the family of the country was always a bad idea

One big brewery near me was in profit and healthily making money yet was attacked by a hostile take over bid, closed down and asset stripped by thatcherite shit holes
