So we have booked accommodation in the hope of getting away this year but no holiday insurance is bookable that we can find. Guess the chances of cancellation is too high with covid still not under control.

We are going to have to wait to book the insurance till nearer the time that the balance is payable and hope the situation with insurance changes.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for insurance and one that covers covid would be great, as well as normal stuff.

Staysure insurance gives the option to add covid cover and cover for traveling against government advice.

However, if you've booked already, the cover likely won't be valid for your booking...

Travel insurance is a bit of a minefield right now. With ever changing government advice etc.

I believe stay sure and post office will allow you to buy additional covid cancellation cover, however most have exclusions in policies where you book a trip where the FCDO advises against travel, so if you booked the holiday/accommodation when advice was not to travel or we were in lockdown and then had to cancel you most likely wouldn’t be covered.

If there wasn’t any at the time of booking your trip/accommodation you could get cover.

It’s worth ringing a couple of companies to ask, instead of buying online.

B xx

"battleface insurance"

You can't book for more than 90 days ahead so will have to wait as longer than that before we hope to go away

We've booked and paid the deposit for the accommodation, which we can cancel 60 days before travel with full refund, as didn't want to miss out on it but will book flights nearer the time.

If we can't get insurance cover before the 60 days of going we will have to cancel tho as too risky to go uninsured.

Be careful with Jet2.com’s recommended insurers. We booked COVID cover through rock insurance via the jet 2 website. Our tests didn’t come through on time so we were refused boarding and the insurers refused to pay out as the late arrival of testing was an exemption!

Jet2.com say it’s nothing to do with them and the testing company, again booked through their website say they aren’t responsible for any losses either!

We haven’t finished with them yet!

That's not good but we're sure you'll give them cause to relook at their responses. Good luck. Xxx

The airport hotel and test looks a good idea but just depends on flight prices and destinations offered at the airport's doing them. Hopefully this will be more widely available by the summer.

I thought I saw somewhere going back to the start of the pandemic that you would be covered for any Covid related illness if you got sick over in the canaries? Anyone else remember this? It was Canaries site and probably there to keep tourism going.

"What month have you booked your accommodation for ?"

We have three holiday accommodation dates for this year June, July and September. Not all in GC tho. And all three were holidays from last year just moved forward a year with a bit of hope that they may happen, depending on covid of course, and insurance availability.

Well the travelling bit still to be arranged but once there we're with a very sexy couple, think you know them, just wish we could beam ourselves there tho it's been too long without sun and sexy times.

Get a GHIC card if you don't already have an EHIC card

A GHIC card will only cover you for basic treatment though - you absolutely need good holiday insurance. Sadly my Dad was very ill while on holiday in Spain a few years back and ended up in Intensive care. He came home with a £20,000 charge on his credit card which fortunately was covered by insurance.

Yes of course, agree about insurance, but A GHIC is a no-brainer, as it's free, and might save you the excess on health insurance

If this was a few years ago when EHIC cards were in use why would your father end up with a 20k bill ? EHIC cards cover emergencies . Did he ask to be taken to a private hospital rather than the nearest public hospital ?

We are regulars in Fuengirola on the Costa Del Sol and if we use one of the two big public hospital that are nearest (in Malaga or Marbella) it’s free with a EHIC Card. If we someone prefers the luxury of the marbled balled private hospital in Benalmadena it costs a fortune and that’s the one you use if you have holiday insurance.

Seems like you answered your own question so wasn't really a reason to ask in the first place!

And maybe detailed information is actually private and none of anyone else's business! Just saying.

The poster brought up her fathers case not me and made a strong statement that her fathers case illustrated that you ‘absolutely ‘ needed good holiday insurance and I was challenging that strong statement . EHIC cards covered emergencies and taking out holiday insurance was an option which added a few extra benefits . Also if you had lots of pre existing conditions holiday insurance was often prohibitively expensive. The situation is different now of course with Brexit .
