Because flu didn’t kill 40k+ in those years you mention. We have a vaccine to control the spread and ill effects of flu, not so for covid. |

The whole point of lock down was to prevent the overburdening of the NHS and thus preventing other people with potentially fatal ailments (who normally would have been saved) from dying. The reason we can all go back in some capacity now is because measures are in place to try to limit break outs and control the spread of it. Lots had been said by idiots who are using it as a device for their own gain. |

Infuenza kills on average 6000 to 8000 per year in the UK. Covid has killed 50000 and we still have 4 months of the year left. That's why we had lockdown because its a pandemic. Colds and flu don't come anywhere near as dangerous as covid has been |

Unfortunately, though saving the NHS from collapse during covid, you can hardly say this is a cause for celebrating Boris/Hancock/May/Cameron and crew have/will in the long run cause more more people to die or have a poor quailty of life due to their constant underfunding over the years of the NHS. Hospitals weren't overburdened during covid purely because politicians chose to cancel all other treatments for an indefinite period and at the same time sending the elderly a death sentence by forcing covid on the elderly in care homes |

This virus is as much a long-term purveyor of a debilitating illness as it is a killer. We may not be killed by it but it can decimate long term - irreparable organ damage, strokes, deep vein thrombosis etc. Do you really think that this government will pay sufficient allowances to help people out? Best way to avoid it is not to catch it. The rules on masks, hand washing and social distancing are there to help avoid it being spread.I hope I am protecting others as well as myself.  |
