Any fabulous ladies out there who’ve had covid suffered with hair loss???
Mines thinned on the top and around the sides.
Don’t know if it’s due to age, stress or covid but I’ve googled it and it is common after a virus, obviously could be due to the other also.
Any one else experienced the same?

I’ve had all the tests that’s normally done for hair loss and all coming back absolutely fine.
Been told because my dad lost his hair it’s genetic. I’m not convinced.
It’s super thin, to a point I can see my scalp.
Suppose I’ve just got to live with it.
It’s something which is knocking my confidence. |

I can understand that. As an interim measure would you try one of those shampoos that prevent hair loss? It might also be worth asking if your thyroid function was border line. |

Yes, I a colleague who had hair loss after covid back in Jan. It took about 4 months for the hair to grow back. She was in hospital for 4 days, other side effect she is suffering is type 2 diabetes.

A few months ago on a thread an hairdresser mentioned that a few of their clients were reporting sore scalp and hair pulling out easily after they being vaccinated I think her remedy was not to use products on their hair for a while. |

Oh, I'm sorry to hear this. I had the same problem back in my early 30's due to the meds I had to take. Really upset me. But I cut my hair short, as it didn't show so much, and I just got used to it.
Thankfully it didn't get any worse, but will always be thin.
Speak to a hairdresser you feel comfortable with. And remember, it's never as noticeable to other people as you think.

Yes I had Covid in October. The hair loss started Instantly and lasted for about 8 weeks , and slowed down. I’ve bought some better shampoo / conditioner now and also collagen tablets . I’ve loads of baby hairs growing so it’s coming back x |

all viruses can cause temporary hair loss, but it's actually hair shedding, which is a natural process except virus can cause more hair shedding than usual, which results in temporary thinning, as natural hair growth can't keep up. After a while it tends to stop and your hair will start to thicken again, so hopefully it won't be something you have to live with, but might be good to check in with the GP anyway. |

I've had a bout of telegens effluvium. Hair shedding due to stress, medication, surgery, shock, post viral etc. I had asyptomatic COVID but doubled with brain surgery due to a brain cyst on Oct 6 last year. About 2 weeks post op my hair was shedding in handfulls.
Shedding has recently stopped and baby hair coming through. TE is usually temporary. Nevertheless extremely worrying.

I lost a lot of hair a few years ago due to stress and anxiety caused by an assault.
It was very hard to see, and made me feel even worse.
I took Biotin ,and it helped.

My hair thinned in the first lockdown. That was stress related though. Working in healthcare in a pandemic isn't fun! It's growing back now but it's not a nice thing to experience so you have my sympathy. |

Mine has thinned, especially on the top due to underactive thyroid and after I had my son. I feel conscious about it but everyone else seems not to notice. Like Red above, I cut my hair short and found a style that covers the thinnest bits.
Having COVID in March/April 2020 or the vaccines doesn't seem to have changed anything - my hair was already thin. |

Mine is genetic and i noticed it from about age 40. I never had thick hair but thinning to the point of seeing scalp is tough on the confidence alright. No fringe to conceal the wrinkles either 
I tried loads of things, to no avail so now I accessorise, with earrings, scarves, hats and wigs sometimes to make up for the absense of any 'crowning glory'.

I've not long had covid and noticed more coming out, asked a few people I know who've had it lately and none of them have suffered so thought it odd, glad I'm not the only one! My hair was thin beforehand too, maybe relevant.
Hope it doesn't last long for either of us. X |
